Donto Sapporo is a real gem located at the Sorrento shopping village in Bundall. Donto is a small Japanese restaurant with no windows that can seat appropriately 40 customers max. If you have never heard of them before head over now because this is real authentic Japanese food and as close to what you will find in Japan, with real Japanese decor that makes you feel like you’re in Japan. This restaurant was recommended by a friend but I'm not sure I'd recommend it to anyone. We were ahead of our schedule and arrived at the restaurant earlier the expected. The restaurant was half empty but the staff only let us in 20 mins later. The food was ok but the quality of service was far below the usual Japanese Restaurant. We were a group of 7. We asked the staff to refill our water and they filled only 3 glasses and left the others empty. We wanted to order some rolls as the portion was pretty small but was told we'll have to wait for another 30-45 mins for a few rolls because the kitchen was busy. But as mentioned, the restaurant only had a few tables, so imagine if it was busier.....
A great little Japanese place on Broadbeach serving some truly wonderful food.<br/ <br/ After starting things off with a large cold Sapporo beer (it was a hot and slightly stormy Queensland day after all) and some delicious goyza, we went for a set which was recommended and a giant chicken katsu curry.<br/ <br/ The bento box, if I can do it justice by labelling it as such, had a bit of everything: the customary miso soup, some sashimi, tempura prawn and vegetables, and some truly delicious mackerel. We discovered this charming Japanese restaurant just down the road from our accommodation. The sushi and sashimi are incredibly fresh and simply delicious! The staff is friendly and attentive. If you're a fan of Japanese cuisine, you won't be disappointed. Be sure to make a reservation, as it tends to get crowded quickly.

Amazing dishes!! Blue-fin tuna was so delicious! Felt as if I went back to Japan. All the staff are very kind, friendly and attentive. Japanese sake they offer are also excellent and very reasonable. Definitely a recommended Japanese restaurant on the coast as a Japanese myself.
At the first I was thinking it is a bit over priced. But the sashimi is very fresh and fatty. The cuts were thick. Usually I only like salmon sashimi the most just because of how fatty and it feels like it’s melting in your mouth but all the sashimi here is quite excellent!
I really enjoy this restaurant. The food, atmosphere, service, and location are all fantastic. I highly recommend trying one of the set menus, which start at $49. The dishes are made with fresh ingredients, traditionally presented, and delicious.
Personally, it is a pretty normal Japanese restaurant. We've reserved a table, however, we were arranged to sit outside the restaurant on the public aisle..Food taste is normal as well. Maybe we just didn't order the correct food.

The best Japanese cuisine in Gold Coast, hands down! We especially enjoy the Tonkotsu Curry, unadon, and obentôs.
