Doytao Thai, a large Thai restaurant across the road from New Theatre, is a favourite Thai establishment, not only for its location, but also for its food. It is a large venue and thusly there is always a table ready and willing, waiting for you to park yourself at for some quick Thai before a show. As a recommendation, I will advise that you always sit in the next door area, when you enter, the initial area can get very loud and the sounds of the kitchen can drown out your own conversation. The toilets aren 't great here, they are out the back, small and it 's never clear if someone 's in there or not. The tables can be a little cramped, but once you 're in your seat, if you stay there, not...

Doytao is found all over Sydney, but the newtown one is my local. Being south end of King street its easy (well easier) to find parking and its opposite The Union Hotel another bonus. Doytao offers all the usual Thai favourites, plus some permanent chefs' specials which are truly tasty. Ever had Tom Yum soup? Well, Doytao put the flavour of Tom Yum soup into seafood fried rice. It's amazing. Or try Three Friends, which is a dish with three kinds of barbecued meats with dipping sauce. Salmon Sparkle sounds a little spectacular, which it is. Think salmon cutlet drowned in a gravy with crab meat, prawns and vegies, all wrapped in foil. As well as having tasty food, Doytao BYO (refer back to Uni...

Came here before a documentary screening at the Newtown theatre. Fellow Yelper SylwiaW recommended the place so we strolled up on a Monday night around 5:45PM. She ordered the duck curry and I got the Tom Yum Fried Rice. Food came out pretty fast tried a bit of her curry but as I am not a fan of coconut, I didn't love it. My tom yum rice was yummy and full of seafood fish, prawns, squid and scallop. The portions were big and the prices were decent. My dish cost $22 which wasn't too bad ate half and took the rest for takeaway.

Comforting and spacious Thai restaurant in a very good location. The menu is what you would expect from any standard thai and the food won't be anything mind-blowing. That said, it is tasty and very filling. I ordered two starters and a main expecting portions to be smaller (I love big portions), so decent value for money. Good service and they offer takeaway too. Seeing how I moved near the area, I will very likely come back or takeaway in the near future Réservez une table maintenant

I came here for a small birthday dinner and it was very enjoyable. We were seated in the back room, which I found very nice and not too busy. The good itself was good and authentic, and we were served very quickly after ordering. The staff was also very accomodating of the fact that we had brought our own birthday cake. Without even asking, they brought us some plates and cutlery. I'll definitely come back again at some point.

I used to live in neighborhood and this place was my local Thai at least twice per week. I love curries so I had duck one and loved it as I love coconut. The portion was pretty big couldn't finish the the whole meal so had takeaway for lunch next day. The food comes up pretty quickly and I was never disappointed there. Quick not expensive healthy and fresh. I will be back again.

The restaurant looks like a hole in the wall which makes it very authentic. Service is awesome and servers are very friendly. The spice is not overwhelming although they gave us additional spice. If you're in the area and in it for a good authentic Thai restaurant, this is a good choice.

Undercharged us by accident, harassed us over the phone to pay, demanded we pay over the phone when we couldn't come in to fix it. When we refused they threatened to take the amount out of the worker's pay instead if we didn't comply. Disgusting behaviour, do not support this business Réservez une table maintenant

This is still a favorite by many locals, but you are close enough to Sydney CBD that there are much better options within reach. Still, if you are in the Newtown area this is worth a visit. Went here many, many times over the years and found it fairly consistent.
