If you are in Zermatt, whether summer or winter, Restaurant Du Pont is a MUST! I believe it's the oldest restaurant in Zermatt and it shows - the inside is very cozy with older photos and materials strung around the restaurant. The upstairs is very quaint! Once you open the door you KNOW you are in a place that knows cheese! So you must order something with cheese at this restaurant :) I've had the Kase Fondue (cheese fondue) including the one with mushrooms, herbs and plain - I loved all of them but the herb one was the best. We went here for lunch last week 8/9/17. Our tour guide pointed out a couple of places to get fondue in Zermatt, but noted that the Du Pont had the best cheese in his opinion. He was right, the fondue and the rosti were delicious. Note that one order of fondue will easily feed two or three people depending on your appetite. We also shared an order of rosti which was fantastic. I would definitely call ahead for reservations though. The place was packed!
We ate dinner here one night in Zermatt to try to save money. The food is ok. But I ordered Chicken thinking about KFC chicken. What I got was one small chicken patty out of the freezer and some fries. That was 20 Francs. Not worth another visit. But we had fun sharing a table with some non-English speaking customers. We traded sentences using Google Translate. That was better than the food.

we ate the tomatenfondue here. it was very good and the portion exactly right. the service was friendly, courteous and even had time for a few cakes. so we have learned that the homemade cheese is used for fondue. in my eyes this is the way to get to know the Swiss.
