Evangeline's Bistro And Music House

We were very excited to finally try this place for the Sunday brunch. I called to make reservations and was told they only take reservations for 4 or less, I asked about bringing 7 and she said if we came early there shouldn’t be any issues. We were the second group in the door and was abruptly and rudely told “ we only seat groups of 4, now the group ahead of us had 10 and was seated together. And a group after us with 6 were seated together. We offered to sit outside and she said, oh we can’t do that either. We were eventually offered a place to sit at a long bar top side by side, really hard to have any kind of conversation that way. If all this wasn’t stressful and bad enough, some of the food came out wasn’t hot and our daughter in law’s good never showed up even after asking 3-4 times. By the time her food arrived we had a finished ours. If that’s not bad enough they actually billed them twice for her meal. For a long established place, it was a total disorganized mess!! What doesn’t make sense is we were one of the first orders in so they didn’t have a back log in the kitchen.

I can't wait to go back!We had a party of five for Father's Day for Sunday Jazz Brunch. We didn't have a reservation because the website says they only accept reservations for parties of four or fewer. We arrived right at 11 am, and after a short wait, we took seats at the bar. Honestly, this was probably the best seat in the house. We had excellent service from the bartenders. We got to sample some beer on tap, and one of the bartenders even made my mom a mini **** Mary to try!Our party started with mimosas and beignets amazing. Then for entrees, we got the Strawberries Jubilee Stuffed New Orleans French Toast, Andouille Sausage Gravy and Biscuits, the Pork Chip Slinger (seriously, try this it's so tender! , Omelet NOLA, and the Bananas Foster Stuffed French Toast. Everything was excellent!Now to plan when we can go back for dinner... ;

Evangeline’s is an extraordinary institution. The music is curated so well and fits with the cuisine to transport you to another world; and the staff and owners are some of the warmest authentic people in the biz. I have loved eating here and I’ve loved the people I’ve met here. Five stars.

Great music, food, drinks and service. I think our server noticed our cheesecake was slightly delayed in coming out before we did (like I said, music was great). When I come back to St. Louis, I will definitely visit again!

This is a gem in a quiet neighborhood. The bbq shrimp and grits were amazing! We loved the music it was a great way to spend an evening in St Louis.
