Interior great especially the Locker room. Restaurant toilets and function suite need an upgrade. We are in restaurant which was ok for dinner a bit like a posh school dinner lacked finishing touches. Had chicken balmoral which is like what you would make at home for a mid week dinner, it needed more lift and plate appeal for the price you are paying which is considerable. Ok home cooking but you would expect more in a restaurant which has such lovely interior and amazing staff. The staff are fab, have a ‘can do’ attitude and very friendly. we had not booked, but they managed to squeeze us for another great food. the mushrooms in my appetizer were huge and simply beautiful with the garlic mayo. my partner had the special area of the lens soup he enjoyed very much. on the main page that was sharp when we finished our ancestors. I had the mixed grill that meant that I didn't have to choose between the steak or the gammon that both are great here. my partner had the steak and ale pee he always enjoys, and our daughter had lasagne, which she could not finish, but she really enjoyed it. about all a great evening, especially when you consider that we had not booked. this place also has a great functional suite for parties etc.
Made a booking and thankful we did as Sundays by the looks of things will require a booking and their Famous Carvery is the reason! We both opted for it (1 lamb, 1 beef) served by the chef then you help yourself to the rest! Roast/boiled tatties, the most delicious cauliflower cheese, brocolli, swede carrot mix, yorkies and gravy selection to partner your chosen meat. £14.95 pp and worth it! It was absolutely delicious. We shared the Malteser cheesecake which was delicious too. Definitely be back and highly recommend the carvery. Service was 1st class too.
I would not return to this restaurant. I ordered the roast of the day with gravy on the side, but it arrived covered in gravy. The waitress took it back and the chef transferred the soggy food onto a clean plate with a jug of gravy on the side. As someone who works in the catering industry, I would never treat a customer in this way, regardless of how long it would take to make a fresh meal. I was offered a different dish, but by then my appetite was ruined. The other meals served to my family, including roast dinners and lasagna, were also dry.

Visited Saturday 24th February, 24, Food was very well presented and tasted lovely. Interaction between staff and the customer were first class. There was a sporting event on in the next bar which is separate to the restaurant, this works well as this didn't interfere with my overall experience. Overall it was a satisfying visit and we plan to go again.
absolutely shocking service waited for over 25 minutes as my dinner ended and no one came to tell them anything else?. but the waiters just don't seem to care. I wanted a sweet but absolutely no chance. I'm still sitting here. that's really pathetic.
