Craved some fried fish but didn't feel like cooking it. I decided to stop in since I always drive by the location. Its a small house like structure next to seven eleven so im expecting it to look homey on the inside. I walk inside the fish house and I'm in awe at the beautiful decor, the beautiful sea blue on the walls and the paintings just really make it pop. I ordered a bbq chicken salad, onion rings, whiting, Mac and cheese, cabbage, and a black bean burger at this restaurant and it was a terrible experience. I felt like I wasted my money. The black bean burger was essentially a messy scoop of black beans on wheat bread that was both poorly put together and tasted awful. The salad had pickled sun-dried tomatoes that were overpowering and made the salad taste like vinegar. The onion rings were soggy and falling apart. The fish was the only decent part of the meal. The Fishouse excels at preparing fish dishes, but falls short when it comes to their side dishes. Their sweet potatoes, for example, are pureed with a sugary topping that could be improved by baking it to achieve a crispy brown finish. The cabbage is noticeably undercooked, while the cole slaw is better cooked but still lacking. On multiple occasions, I received raw french fries, leading me to believe that cooked sides are not a priority for this restaurant. Tried this place on a limb. I was not satisfied. The cabbage was hard without any seasoning. The Mac Cheese was cheese and mushy noodles. The only thing I enjoyed was the fried catfish.
I actually loved this place and was sad to see ther they closed...does anyone knows if the owners and/or chefs are still cooking? Food truck maybe?
not my cup of tea. actually, the tee was the only thing I enjoy. I stopped trying out the sides to get everyone down. the mac-n-cheese tastes.
