I remember when I was a youngster going to this shop for late night dimmies when it was the ageless Tai Hoong.I noticed its renaissance a couple of years ago but never thought anything of it. The recently I walked past it one night and it was buzzing so decided to take a look.We wanted to have a Chinese New Year meal and figured this would be the GO!However probably should have looked at the menu more closely. It has some perennial chinese dishes but the reality is that much of the menu owes more to Sth East Asian cuisines. This would have been ok except to say the food here is relatively bland. We had salt and pepper squid which was ok but sans the salt and pepper. The BBQ pork was very good, the assam fish - most expensive dish on the menu was light on for fishy bites. The vegetable and mushroom was ok.Essentially this place is a casual cafe yet with a bill for $65 I reckon we could have done better in Nelson Pl. Even had a $5 corkage charge which I don't mind because they did have excellent glassware but when it turns up at the table with smudge marks and fingerprints it makes for disappointment.I can't really criticise the place except for the fact that if it wants to charge the prices it does, it needs to add a little more value to the fare offered.

You might note I review this venue every year, I have to it seems to get better every time I go. Happy smiling faces when you arrive, even without a booking. Always very helpful even when they are busy. Although the venue is now a restaurant my never forgets to remind me that it was a hardware store 200 years ago to family member, but back to the food, The bowls os soup are a meal on there own, ideal for big eaters, Lemon chicken, always too much for the wife to each in one hit, but always scrumpshus, sizzling honey pepper beef, brilliant. Good eatery, good staff, good food, cant go wrong.

We've taken ages to weed out the special eating places in Willy, and I'm upset it took us so long to try this. We had the pork dumplings and roti with satay for entree, both were fantastic dishes! The stir fried chicken with buttered eggs was equally amazing - and that was more food than the two of us could handle. We'll definitely be coming back - either to sit in, or for take away. Winner!
