Gene's Chinese Flatbread

My husband and I ate here for a late lunch. This is just one of my top five favorite restaurants I had. We were lucky to sneak one of the few tables. Be ready to take if you order from here because there are about 4 places to eat. You are only cash when you order inside, but also have options to order online and pay by credit card. We had the lamb spits, lamb noodles, pork fillet sandwich, and pork hand pulled noodles. Everything was so fresh and tasteful! I was initially skeptical about the pork bread sandwich bc the pig looked dry, but was amazed to find that the pork was juicy and perfectly seasoned. The sandwich bread was fresh and delicious! My husband loved the lamb and was so happy that he ordered it! I'm not a big fan of lamb, but really enjoyed the spear! The spice was spicy and on point! The star of the show is the hand-drawn noodles. You are so fresh that you can see how the cook makes it through the kitchen window! Our only regret is that we live in St. Louis and cannot come here every day! Prices are more than reasonable.

Had Gene's for the first time 6 years ago during a short trip to Boston and returned today to see if it's still as good as I remember it is. Despite the name, they also have great lamb hand pulled noodles chewy with a good bite, flavorful sauce, generous veg and lamb. The flatbreads (lamb or pork) as well as the lamb skewers make a great light meal or snack. For the spice averse, you can request less or no spice. Walk in orders are cash only, but you can pay by card and pick up through their online ordering portal. They also do deliveries by GrubHub/chowbus/doordash. The restaurant itself is tiny, truly a hole in the wall kind of place. Maybe 10 seats total. Most people pick up to go or eat in really quickly and don't linger. Will continue to be a stop for me anytime I'm in Boston Chinatown.
