After hearing lots of great reports, left very disappointed. Finishing the week in Cornwall, saved the best till last with a chippy dinner, we've been looking forward all week for this. The prices are reasonable if the quality is high, so I did not bulk at the prices. I arrived shortly after 6om on Saturday and I thought there would be more of a queue, turn out I arrived before the queue as the line soon filled up and people queuing out of the shop, a further good sign. Rang ahead as it was quite a big order as two families travelling together from Bude back to our campsite near Holsworthy. Got back to the campsite and we opened our fish to find 3 pieces of cremated fish the batter was so over cooked that it disintergrated into crumbs when it was cut the fish inside was so over cooked it was chewy and I couldn’t even pull it apart to give to the dog!! They seemed to have possibly even been from the previous day and dropped back into oil to reheat? The chips were also awful full of crispy bits and the chips also tasted like they had been recooked from the previous day! We were staying at Kilkhampton for the weekend and have visited this chippy a few years ago and hoped it would be as good as last time. It was! 10/10 for quality, portion size and customer service. There were quite a few telephone orders whilst we waited for ours to be cooked (we had cod and chips plus curry sauce and mushy peas) so I made a note of the number for next time as we will be back in Kilkhampton very soon. It’s freshly cooked to order and we waited about 10 mins which isn’t long but when you are really hungry and you can smell the chips it seemed a lot longer than 10 mins!
We, a group of 8 adults and 3 children who were staying nearby, dined at this restaurant. We all ordered different meals and the kids had the special meal deals. The food was fantastic with large portions that were cooked fresh to order. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would recommend calling ahead to have the order ready, although the service was excellent. Overall, we highly recommend this restaurant. We ordered two foot-long sausages in batter and a large portion of chips to share. We found the prices to be very reasonable and the portion sizes to be generous. The staff were extremely friendly and provided excellent service. If we ever found ourselves in the area again, we would definitely return to this restaurant.
Had lovely cod and chips from here. They were all freshly cooked and still nice and hot when we got back to our caravan at Sandymouth. It doesn’t look much from the outside, I suppose as others have said, it’s a proper old fashioned chippy. We would happily go here again.
