When you've had enough of three course holiday meals, head on down to the Moulin in Saint Martin d'Ardèche. Monday is 'Fred' Burger Day. I'm not a big fan of burgers, but our 8 year old had been dying to get down there to try one.On the last day of the holidays, we went to see Fred, the patron and asked for the Fred Burger. It's usually only served on Monday evenings, but as he had already made his delicious fresh burger buns for the day, he was happy to rustle up the home made burgers with salad, cheese and Fred's 'secret' sauce, which our little one is convinced is made with whiskey. We washed it down with a pichet of the local Cathrinette red, and sat round the back of the restaurant onthe beautiful open air terrace next to the streamthat runs through the old water mill.Fred and his team are always welcoming even in their busiest periods. My only regret today was that we didn't have room for one of their amazing ice creams and also glad we didn't have a starter. Fred Burgers are delish - but not for the faint hearted of small appetites!!
