I grew up in Toronto, lived in Vancouver, Toronto, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand and many more. I have no affiliation with this joint. What I do have is a deep appreciation of their food, their warmth and courtesy and their value. You won't find many wonton soups as good as Gung Ho's in most countries, let alone Toronto. Their Beef with Snow Peas is to die for. The wontons are packed with fresh shrimp, the broth genuine and complex. Forget all the BullSt reviews here stating they are grumpy or rude; nothing can be further from the truth. This restaurant is cross contaminating food vegetarian dishes with meat and non vegetarian dishes.The owners are complete fools and have no respect for their clientele, who they admit who are long long time customers. The idiot owners do not rectify the issue only defend their stupidity.If you are a vegetarian or have any dietary requests I highly suggest you do not eat at this restaurant due to cross cross contamination; the owners have been made well aware this post would be posted.The owners have also been told about their stupidity a long long time customers.
All I really care about at a restaurant is whether the food is served at the right temperature, is as described on the menu, tastes good, and is priced fairly. As a group of four adults, we ordered Chicken Fried Rice, Lemon Chicken, Mixed Vegetable Egg Foo Yung, Shrimp in Black Bean Sauce, Beef with Rivlce Noodles, and Szechuan Beef. Gold stars for Gung Ho!(If you care about atmosphere, this may not be the place for you.
Food was ok but not nearly as good as I had expected based on other reviews. Sauces tasted store bought and not authentic. Everything was hot and good. Staff were very pleasant. Do not think of this place if you are looking for a sit down dinner (especially if it is a first/last date) as you would be dining amongst boxes of supplies and takeout customers waiting for their food. It is a little weird because most of the restaurant looks like a warehouse for tables and chairs! But, there are three tables for dine in. I note they do a busy take out service. The food was delicious! We had chicken fried rice, lemon chicken, Szechuan beef, beef with rice noodles, vegetable egg foo yong, shrimp in black bean sauce. Prices were very reasonable.
I was sooooo hungry. Ordered food and brought it home. I ordered calamari....... I opened that first started eating it. Not 10min later I was violently ill!! AND I MEAN VIOLENTLY! it was so horrible I thought I was going to die!The place looked a bit sketchy, maybe I should have just stuck to fried rice and egg rolls!!
As an Asian person it’s so hard to find good (authentic) HK style Chinese food outside of Toronto, Markham Richmond Hill. This was really good and done very well. Even better than some of the places in Richmond Hill. The owner was really nice and friendly. Will definitely be coming back again.
We were on the verge of giving up on finding good Chinese take out in Orillia until we found Gung Ho! The food was delicious, they were super friendly, and they were very careful to inform us of what was in each item to ensure everything was vegetarian and shellfish free! Highly recommend!
