we had a portion of small spares for a late breakfast - brunch - lunch, whatever. as you do, because. it's almost midnight and none of us have starved. I can only say that about the portion size. the rippchen were well made, the flesh was tender and very well seasoned. they do not expect a healthy option if they choose such a place, so it was fat - but on a good type and wise. the chips were lovable - there were real kartoffel chips, round and flat, 2 mm thick, salted. real. you can always choose a Paleo option and leave the pommes away. there were also softdrinks and beer - even the popular tegernseer helles was there, which is strangely not to be found in heidelberg. the ambiente is what t...
our 5-member group was there on a cool Thursday evening in the oktober and under the tent was full. We shared a table with two masters. it's a bite, so they don't expect decor, but that's part of the experience. we had to wait a bit, as we were the second last order of the evening and have been entertaining with the great selection of beers. when the food came out of the kitchen, we all dug into the dry rubbed rippchen and the mountain of bratkartoffeln. that wait has been rewarded as the ripples were tender and fell delicious from the bones. so beautifully spiced and the portions are much too big, but so good. thank you hakim.
This place is one of the more interesting places in Heidelberg. Originally catering to US military, offering them BBQ ribs more delicious than the ones from home, and boasting a special secret sauce recipe, it has now adjusted to the departure of the military and...gathered a new clientel. The owner, Hakim, has a very colorful past that he is happy to relate. The place itself, a kind of a wagon with a built-on tent, is so unusual in Germany, one thinks one has been beamed to the Middle East. Fries are delicious too. But the main draw is the unique flavor of Hakim himself and his story.
these were the best rippchen we've ever had! if the ambiente doesn't matter, hakim’s is definitely worth a visit. aren't surprised when they eat picnic tables outside and nobody comes by to wipe them off. we have eaten at a very busy evening under the week and had to wait, but it was an experience worth waiting for. we ordered 5 small teller rippchen and 1 teller pommes for 5 of us and could not eat everything.
