This was an unexpected surprise on our trip to Washington DC. Saw the Hard Times Cafe on Google Maps and it was less than a mile from our hotel. We took a trip for dinner and it was excellent! The chili was fantastic, we had it on top of nachos. My daughter had a pulled pork sandwich and I had pulled pork tacos that came with a delicious jalapeno ranch sauce. (Both were listed on the special menu so they not be regular items) Our food was hot and fresh and very affordable. Our server was friendly and attentive. I absolutely love the Hard Times Chili Mac (chili served over spaghetti). We all enjoyed the five-way chili, minus the cheese. I had half Cincinnati and half Terlingua Red, while my wife opted for half Terlingua and half Vegetarian. Honestly, it doesn’t matter which kind you choose; they’re all delicious. The prices are still quite reasonable for the generous portions you receive. The service was excellent, and we were seated at a lovely table on the outdoor terrace. Hard Times never lets me down!
This restaurant is an excellent choice for delicious pub food, particularly their signature chili. It's some of the best chili I've ever tasted, with a variety of spice levels and flavors available. You can enjoy it with or without beans, and it can be served on its own or paired with items like burgers, hot dogs, salads, and wings. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the table service is extremely friendly. They also have a full bar with a great selection of craft beers.
This charming little café has a cozy, homey vibe. The food and service are straightforward but satisfying. I tried the chili dog, which was delicious, and the Chili Sampler as well. Each type of chili was distinct and flavorful in its own right. It's a great spot for a quick meal. Our server, Sarah, provided excellent service.
