Having read many recommendations for this restaurant, I searched it out when in Cassel. It is located at the top of Mont Cassel near the windmill; if the tourist office is closed when you are there, as it was when I visited, that should be enough information to help you find it. Being at the top of the hill, the terrace overlooks a beautiful view and is well worth sitting in if the weather is nice.None of the staff seemed to speak English, and as I don't speak French this led to a little mix up when a server brought me someone else's drinks. Overall, though, the service was friendly. It did however completely drop off after my dessert was served; another table and I went inside to locate someone for our bills and waited 5 minutes before anyone appeared to direct us to the store (more later) to pay.The food was quite good. I had a salad with a cheese tart. The salad was a wonderful mix of butter lettuce and more tangy greens, with a nice light dressing. The tart was very dense and rich, baked to perfection. Dessert was a chocolate cake with speculoos crumbs between layers and on top, served with ice cream and whipped cream - yum!The beer list is extensive and very good. The Estaminet has it's own beer that comes on in 750 ml bottles; it is very good but a touch higher in alcohol so good to either share or consume over a leisurely lunch. The store is not to be missed, by the way. Full of local and regional products, it's a nice stop to load up on food and momentos from the area.

A gem of a Restaurant not to be missed......if you are in this glorious part of the world seeking a good meal and friendly atmosphere, then this restaurant is a must !We have visited several times now, because it is a real treat - a delicious selection of flamand cooking, celebrating regional produce and rustic recipes.Guinea fowl, pork, chicken, beef - have all been a delight, while the pate's are scrumptious !!!The views from this hill top treasure are fabulous, the interior design is very creative, a museum of curiosity, filled with pots, pans, paintings, old school cafe games and all things quaint, cute, curious and colourful. The ambience is just perfect, very relaxed and warming - cosy and comfortable !They offer a great selection of regional beers, ales, ciders, genever - Many of the them, also available to buy in their olde world shop, that offers regional produce and gift ideas. We look forward to visiting again, working our way thru the menu and dipping into the specials of the day !To top it off - Service very good and real value for money too !A bientot,Perry Haines & Becky Chantler.

To visit the gardens, you'll have to climb Mont Cassel first, where Estaminet Kasteelhof is situated. We came here not for a lunch or dinner, but to get the tickets for the garden - and were pleasantly surprised by the delicatessenshop that sold all kinds of regional specialties, such as rillettes and "potjesvlees".....

The place is charming but the food is not at the minimum level of what we expect from an estaminet. Portions are quite small, French fries not fresh and most weird point, welsh is without ham...Last point waiter is really kind but not the cashier!!
