This evening, I ordered rice pudding from Hornitos, and it was absolutely terrible! I'm genuinely disappointed. I've visited many Colombian cafes, and I've never encountered rice pudding that looked like soup. This is not how rice pudding should appear, and the taste was even worse. The rice was undercooked; it felt like someone simply tossed some raw rice into a cup and added a little milk. What a shame!
Food and drinks are great. Only thing is they always start to close an hour early. Meaning kitchen is close and all you can order is drinks and whatevers on the counter. I drive from the bronx to work here at carteret to never make it on time to order from here. Idk if it's a NJ thing but it's such a shame a great place like this closes so early.
I wholeheartedly recommend this charming little bakery for its amazing food! Be sure to try the Mini Carne Mini Empanadas—they're the best I've ever tasted! The Chorizo con Arepa is also excellent. You truly get great value for your money here. Don't hesitate to place an order from this spot!
The waitress who served us was extremely rude and unhelpful, making it impossible to ask her any questions without receiving a snarky response. We had to wait 20 minutes for the restaurant to open, only to be met with subpar service. Overall, the experience was not worth repeating. Réservez une table maintenant
I didn't receive the pastries I ordered. While the food is consistently good, this is the second time I've ordered pastries from the bakery section and ended up without the items I selected. Instead, I was given substitutes without having the option to choose an alternative.
Valadamire was our waiter. He was the best waiter I've ever had, and I'm 55 years old. He was quick, came to our table to tell us there was a delay in our beverage. 100% recommend him if you are going there.
This restaurant is fantastic. Being half Colombian, I find it perfectly captures the essence of both my Colombian heritage and my other roots. Plus, the portion sizes are generous!
