You can get to Hornlihutte walking a beautiful hiking route from Zermatt. The views are absolutely stunning and the lengthy walk might be quite exhausting but totally worth it. Keep in mind though that if you plan to arrive to Hornlihutte late, that the...last cable car leaves at and you should count on at least hour walking time from the refuge to the station. But it you decide to stay overnight, be prepared to spend a fortune there. Say, a bottle of water will cost you euro and you are forbidden to consume or own snacks at the terrace. As for the accomodation, you will be asked to pay a ridiculously high price of swiss francs or euro per person for a night in an bed dorm ! Camping is prohi...
we took the gondola from shattered to black and then wandered to the mackerel horn. the hornlihutte was up and was a nice place to take a break, to pack some rugged and to enjoy the view of the mountaineers on the summit. it was a little expensive, but we had a picnic so that only bought drinks and a horn skinpin. we walked a little past the horny skin to find a perfect picnic place where we could watch the rope climbers and made new friends with some French people who shared their wee with us when they tasted one of their friends who had gone. this was a Bucket list hike and we thought it would be nice to have the hornlihutte as a place to stop at the tip for a break before they down the mo...
Amazing location up Matterhorn, Hornlihutte is a great example of Swiss mountain lodge know-how. Very clean, spacious relaxed environment with chill out and reading areas providing a great base to prepare for tackling the mountain. Very clean and comfortable rooms and good food (amazing...rosti) though quite pricey. Downside for us was communal shower facilities, I know this is normal for many mountain lodges, just a bit fussy about this.
very expensive mountain hut. the menu card is minimalist. that was okay. in comparison with mountain huts in the dolomites, where they also fly with helicopters eating, the Hörnlihütte really has not much to offer. the service was that people have acted pretty...trotzlich, not completely unfriendly, but also not really nice. the coffee was very bad!
