Arriving in Beaumont early evening after a long drive on a very hot day, we were glad we had reserved a table at this little hotel's restaurant. Through the front entrance door, there is an interesting-looking bar area and then a comfortable dining room - but we were pleased to be shown to a table on the shady flower- filled terrace at the rear of the hotel. Aperitifs of good Kir soon arrived plus some freshly- baked olive bread then an amuse-bouche of a delicious cold carrot & cumin soup. We chose from the cheapest (€17) menu and were not at all disappointed with the food that was delivered; especially appreciated was J's supreme of guinea-fowl in a filo wrapping but everything was good.
The Dordogne is full of restaurants tarted up for tourist consumption. The Hostellerie Saint Front in Beaumont du Perigord is most definitely not. It has a genuine, old-fashioned atmosphere, on the shabby side, which we far prefer to so-called "perfection". We ate out on the terrace, which is not visible from the street. Several menus are on offer, including a one-dish meal based on local ingredients. We decided to go the whole hog and have their 30-euro menu. For that price, we enjoyed: a little green soup as an amuse-bouche, followed by foie gras mi-cuit, really delicious, accompanied (for 4 euros) by a glass of delicious local Montbazillac. After that, one of us had a filet mignon with ho...
We were passing through Beaumont last Sunday and stopped here on the off chance at 1.15pm to ask if it were still possible to get a simple one-dish lunch without the full 3/4 course meal, as we still had a good drive to get where we were going that afternoon. We were asked in no uncertain terms if we thought the chef's restaurant looked like a "snack bar" - (God forbid!), and what on earth were we thinking by turning up at 1.15 expecting to be served when they were busy serving dessert to the other customers? I therefore cannot say what the food is like as we were virtually thrown out of the place for being so presumptuous, but if the welcome is anything to go on, I definitely will not be go... We visited Beaumont on a cold and rainy March day, we were warmly welcomed and given a menu each...al in French. We managed to work out what to have off the set menu which was 20 Euros each plus drinks. We had an appetizer followed by starter, Soup for me and Bellinis for my wife, both fantastic quality. Main courses arrived and I had shredded beef with Mashed potato and a few hips and my wife had A chicken dish with mashed potato. Again both dishes were fabulous and a great balance of taste and richness.Desserts were apple crumble and fromage du Berbis and again full marks for quality and taste.Probably the best meals we've had in France and we've been coming here regulalrly for 10 years......
It started to rain so we decided to find somewhere to eat. The restaurant was empty but we were early and were quickly served. There was little choice so we opted for the Menu du Terroir, amuse bouche, a small delicious bowl of garlic soup, entree of Foie gras, served simply with walnuts and crusted fresh bread, superb confit de canard with potatoes, and topped off with a nutty ice cream, prunes and raspberry. We opted for a glass of Monbazillac. With the foie gras, and a glass of bergerac red with the duck, cost around 65 euros. The duck confit was the best we have ever tasted, with a delicious crispy skin. The restaurant filled up as we ate, but service with a limited menu was quietly effici...
On the strength of the previous reviews we booked an evening dinner here for four of us but our experience didn't match those of others. We weren't able to use the terrace owing to a business meeting that was taking place but in all fairness this was explained when we first booked our meal. The €20 menu was good value and the wine list, although not having a great choice was also reasonably priced. Our main veal dish was a little disappointing as it was quite fatty which made look rather unappetising. The service was friendly and helpful and the dining room had the tables well spaced. In spite of our misgivings I feel it has the potential to do better and would give it another chance.
We spent New Year's Eve with friends at this comfortable restaurant, Food and service excellent.Thank you!
