We came to this restaurant because we heard they had vegan brunch options. We ordered the vegan sweet yam benedict and shakshuka. The flavors were good, but the benedict did not resemble a traditional eggs benedict. It consisted of roasted yam slices, fried plantain, and guacamole sauce. The dish was lacking in protein and was not filling enough for a meal. The shakshuka also had some substitutions, like tempeh instead of poached eggs and feta cheese. The menu was confusing for vegans, as many of the options were adaptations of non-vegan dishes for the same price but with less food. Overall, we were not impressed and probably would not return. The staff should try the vegan options themselve...
Our experience at House of Boateng (HOB) was absolutely fantastic. We were greeted warmly by the charming host as soon as we arrived. You place your order at the beginning and then the hostess brings it to your table when it's ready. The atmosphere is charming with plenty of seating options, but we fell in love with the patio and its beautiful weather. We enjoyed the smoked vegan tempeh Benny and the harissa grilled halloumi crepe, both incredibly delicious. And their in-house special mango habanero sauce is a game changer! It was so good that we had to buy a bottle to take home. Without a doubt, this might just be the best brunch spot in Greater Victoria, BC. Don't miss out on this culinary...
We stumbled upon this restaurant by chance while searching for a breakfast spot, and what a pleasant surprise it turned out to be! The staff we interacted with were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. This cozy cafe has a laid-back atmosphere and offers a mouthwatering brunch menu featuring elevated, simple, and hearty dishes with a hint of African influence. They also have a variety of delicious vegetarian options and excellent coffee. We're excited to come back and try their dinner menu after reading rave reviews online. Can't wait to visit again!
I can't believe it took me this long to write a review! This restaurant is our favorite spot for a top-notch brunch in the greater Victoria area. The service is excellent and the staff really know their food. The dishes are consistently delicious every single time. The house-made hot sauce is also outstanding. The food here is truly world-class, and having lived in big cities all my life, I can say it's on par with the best. It's hard to find a place in Victoria of this caliber, but it's definitely worth the wait and the drive to get there.
The restaurant always has a waiting line, but the wait is usually short, around 10-15 minutes. The servers are friendly and welcoming. Once seated, you have to go to the counter to order and pay for your meal, which means you don't have the option to tip the servers afterwards. The restaurant has a cozy, family-friendly atmosphere. The food is delicious, especially the jollof rice which is prepared in the Ghanaian style with good spice. The presentation of the food is also impressive.
my man ordered the smoked Tofu sandwich and enjoyed it. I ordered a flat white with milk (which was delicious) and the vegan benny, which was a disappointment, because no hollandaise (it is easy to veganize the sauce, and is not the soaking what makes it a benny the cheek-pecker-fritter was good and came hot, but they tried the frit with a meat-alternative, the tasteless the carrots were cooked to perfection, so I eat the frit and kartoffels and leave the estates.
My husband ordered the smoked tofu sandwich and really liked it. I chose a flat white with oat milk, which was great, but was disappointed with the vegan Benny as it lacked hollandaise sauce. The chickpea fritter was tasty and hot, but the meat alternative topping was bland and cold compared to the rest of the dish. The potatoes were cooked perfectly, so I ended up eating the fritters and potatoes and leaving the toppings.
I tried the vegan Benedict with their homemade curry hot sauce and it was absolutely delicious! My husband had the smoked tofu sandwich, he thought it was good but not very smoky. The potatoes were also very tasty. I really enjoyed the creamy London fog tea and trying some of the vegan baked goods they had available that day. Overall, it was a fantastic brunch and we can't wait to visit again next time we're in town.
had the vegan benny with some of their homemade curry hot sauce and it was just so amazing! my man had the smoked Tofu sandwich, he said it was good, but not all that is smokey. the potatoes were so delicious. I loved the creamy sky that was my london nebel, and our rehearsal of the vegan baked goods that they had on this day. a fantastic brunch and we are happy to come back when we are in town.
