First, the food: They recently opened their kitchen and I tried two of their sliders. If I recall correctly I tried the Cowpoke and Chimi. So good! They're just the right level of greesy and savory. They have a few beers on tap, pretty standard bar/pub setup. All in all, eating there and drinking there is a good experience. Second, the context: This place is really cool, I went there on Wednesday for their weekly Magic The Gathering night. I bought a Commander preconstructed deck, they had a pretty limited selection but they had some powerful stuff for what they did have, and the prices were all comparable to most MTG product retailers, the top of my mind is something like Galactic Toys on 2...
I have been here twice now. Pints and puzzles and Demo Day. They are so welcoming to us who walk into things we have no clue about. Pints and puzzles were a little more intense puzzles than we anticipated, but they were so friendly and understanding of ALL our stupid questions. Demo Day said all ages, so I brought my children (9,7,7) and everyone was just as kind to the kids as they were the adults (this is not always the case in other places). It was a wonderful experience getting introduced to the place and new games. Staff are all amazing, friendly, and work as a great team to keep it clean and functioning smoothly.
House Rules has become one of my favorite places in Grand Rapids! The staff are kind, friendly, and attentive, there's a wide selection of drinks for every customer and mood, and the atmosphere is welcoming and fun. The new offerings from the kitchen are BANGIN to boot, I can't wait to try more of the fries!
Tons of games available to play and purchase. It was great seeing ages from college to those in their 60’s spending time together. Lots of drinks to choose from and some yummy treats as well. We’re looking forward to coming back maybe on a less busy day.

Great place to hang out with friends and play games with drinks and snacks. Definitely make a reservation. It wasnt obvious to me before going but they actually have a full menu of food. The Tokyo fries were amazing
The renovated space is lovely! The new menu is extensive and tasty, plus the game selection is comprehensive, as is their store. I come here for get-togethers, birthdays, plus any and all other occasions.
Their new menu is awesome. The food is all very high quality and very tasty. The Yaya chicken was especially good.
