The food is unfortunately some of the best Chinese food in the area. I say unfortunate because it is the worst run restaurant in the area as well. It is pure chaos. There are No systems or protocols in place you walk in and its a free for all with management hiding behind a glass reception desk. If you are picking up takeout or trying to give your name or pay your check its all located in the same 5 foot area. No one engages you and you have to figure out the logistics to get your action executed upon. The customers are super aggressive since there is no orderly process. Finally tried Hunan Taste, and what an experience! It is absolutely STUNNING on the inside and outside. The decor is so opulent molding, paneling, koi, gorgeous tablecloths, walnut chairs etc. We split the scallion pancakes, spicy dumplings, and soup dumplings as appetizers. The scallion pancakes were light and fluffy. I really enjoyed the soup dumplings that were juicy with a perfect tasting filing. Spicy dumplings were good too. I got the general tso lunch special which came with soup and fried rice. Everything was great, loved the general tso's sauce which was pretty unique. Old school Chinese, everything was delicious. Only thing was it was a little salty I think.
Honestly, a disgrace in NJ that this restaurant is discussed as the best in northern NJ. It's an awful representation of Chinese cuisine. It's all Americanized nonsense with no authentic Chinese dishes. Food quality is embarrassing. But the building is very pretty. If you enjoy seeing fish in small tanks and you love General Tso's Chicken, then have at it. If you are looking for authentic and well made Chinese food there are much better restaurants now. They make money however. But, let's get proper reviews in 2023. This isn't 1955.
Public Service Announcement: If you have sinus issues try the mustard. Not only will it clear up any cold/flu, but it will clear out your sinuses with one drop on an egg roll. Which speaking of egg rolls, were stout and plentiful with an even mix of balanced ingredients. Was not a fan of the wonton egg drop soup, but that could have been because I lost half my tastebuds earlier in the meal when I grossly underestimated the power of the mustard. I don't know what they make it out of, but it's nuclear.

I met 2 friends there and it really did not meet my expectations, I gave it two stars because my friends liked their meal both chicken dishes. I had read previous reviews and someone complained about being rushed. The waiter and busboys were really always around and did rush us which was annoying. But I ordered sesame beef. And I ate one piece and just did eat anymore. The beef was so chewy it was not edible. It was like I was eating chewing gum. It was horrible.
We have been here a couple of times and the food has been great each time. We had 7pm reservations and were seated early. Excellent service and the food came very quickly. Everything was very good.
