My friend and I decided to try this restaurant on the recommendation of our hotel staff, and we weren't disappointed. We were seated and given warm Italian bread with olive oil and balsamic to dip it in. After looking at the menu, we decided to share an appetizer, entree and dessert. We each ordered a glass of the house wine, which complemented our food well.Our appetizer was the calamari/shrimp combination (delicious), our entree was the Pasta Puttenesca (fabulous!) and our dessert was the tiramisu (amazing...could have eaten 2 of them myself!).Everything was fresh and delicious. The Pasta Puttenesca was the best that I (and my friend) have ever had....and we have tried this dish in several...
My review might be prejudiced as the place had no AC on a hot day. I had tried to make a reservation for one, but was told the day before that they could not do that. I should have passed. The outdoor seating was all tables for 4. There were only 2 tables for 2 inside, but one was vacant the entire time I was at the bar. The bar was comfortable enough, and I found a great talking companion. Food was good, but not special considering the expense of it. I felt it was a little overpriced for pasta. The corner location is lovely and I would highly recommend the outdoor seating.....they supply blankets if it gets chilly. Quite lovely. Canadian wine selections were good.
We shared a salad and it was plenty for two. The salad was very good and so we anticipated wonderful entrees. However, the crab and pasta special had too strong a crab taste--the crab wasn't sweet as fresh crab should be. The presentation of that dish and the salad was great. The gnocchi was listed as "tricolore" so I was expecting gnocchi with a strip of the bolognese, pesto, and gorgonzola laid side by side. When I mentioned I didn't want the walnuts with the gorgonzola, the server just delivered straight gorgonzola sauce. When I asked about the others, she claimed you just pick one. As much as I love gorgonzola, it was a lot of one flavor.
We went here with another couple. I had the mushroom pappardelle, it was so light and delicate. I loved it! Wished I could have had a little more fresh Parmesan but other than that. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. My after dinner coffee was delicious, it totally tasted like I could be in Italy. Only thing to remember is if you go on a weekend make a reservation and order an appie because it can get very busy. I will for sure come again on my next trip.
One of the ugliest buildings from the outside, but inside is a different story. A nice layout of tables and spacious. We sat at the bar and enjoyed quality mixed meat and pickle antipasto for two. Then linguini with clams and walnut canaloni . Great wine and coffee. Not the cheapest but very good quality food and the staff where exceptionally alert and helpful. Well worth a try .
Just a short step from our Hotel Coast Victoria Hotel and Marina.As we were checking the menu for that evening a local man walked by and said this was highly recommended, so we thought we would give it a try. We were not disappointed the place was very busy and we may have had to wait a little while but the food was worth it. People were turning up all the time we were there.
What a treat! I actually read the reviews on TripAdvisor written by Italian visitors before I went to this restaurant and I was not disappointed. It is definitely authentic! Great service, wonderful atmosphere and delicious food! They also have an interesting wine list featuring some unique wines which was a pleasant surprise.
