La Bastille Saarbrücken

We were fortunate, without a reservation, to get a windowside table just inside. On warm Summer nights La Bastille's al fresco dining is the place to be (a reservation is recommended). We had a late lunch so only ordered a main course, lamb cutlets (served...grilled, on the bone). I ordered mine pink. They were perfectly prepared, tender and flavourful. Sides included a tasty house salad and crispy potatoes. Finished with rasberries and cream. Again, delicious. The service was helpful and gracious. Highly recommended.

This is one of the favorite restaurants of our kids, who live in Saarbrucken, so we were happy to go there while visiting them. Sitting outside on the cobblestone plaza was very pleasant. The food was excellent, including a herring appetizer, and there was a...nice mix of French and German specialties. An aperitif of cremant, was very nice. The menu was in German--but the google translate app meant we could hold our phone over the menu and read it in English.

As we had no reservation, we went early just at opening time and were given a perfectly placed table. Service was extraordinary. Since one in our party must be gluten-free, wait staff was attentive and asked for modifications to a marvelous shrimp dish (instead...of the sauce, balsamic vinegar was used). Pasta ordered by the other member of the group was wonderful. We highly recommend this restaurant!
