La Brasserie de la Place

It seems odd to be raving about a burger when there is such a variety of great food in this area, but sometimes it is good to have a break from the richer dishes on offer. My partner and I had lunch at the Brasserie de la Place and agreed that we had not had a better meal of its type anywhere. Herself decided against a starter, but I had prawns in chilli and garlic oil in which the flavours were balanced to perfection. We each had the standard burger (having had enough duck in all its forms for the time being!) which was came with a salad and absolutely delicious potato wedges which, again, were probably the best I have ever tasted. The home made burgers were superb, juicy and full of flavour. The owner, originally from Cork, told us that she decided to go down this particular route after realising that in most French restaurants the burgers were bought in rather than made on the premises. It certainly seems to have paid off. For dessert we each had the trio of miniature puds plus coffee, which were all exquisite. If we are ever in the area again, we would have no hesitation in heading for the Brasserie de la Place.

Audrey and her team catered for our 'pre-wedding' dinner just outside the Brasserie in Aubeterre square. We had a set, sit down dinner of 40 guests and she went above and beyond to make this evening as special as she possibly could. The tables were set beautifully, and the pre-drink that we had arranged was laid out with fresh flowers. She'd even made individual place mats for everyone, and had hand written their order on them. The food, the drink, and her attention to detail really did set off our wedding proceedings with a sprinkling of magical charm.I couldn't recommend this wonderful Brasserie more...

Visited here twice during a recent trip to Aubeterre, very friendly staff, all with good English. The menu is not classic French, but that's available in abundance in this area, but very well cooked simple food. We had burgers both times, different toppings etc, and they were exceptionally great both times. Great food and very good value, I highly recommend.

Disappointed to see that the owners of this excellent restaurant have now left and it is now closed. It is supposed to be opening later this month under new ownership but not much sign of activity yet.

This restaurant is now under new ownership and nationality, the menu, atmosphere and vibe are now totally different, which is regrettable. Name has changed also to Le Comptoir D'Alba Terra
