I'm so thrilled to have discovered this restaurant! Tucked away in the heart of Hoboken, it's truly a hidden gem. The prices are incredibly reasonable, and the staff is exceptionally attentive and welcoming. The food is simply fantastic! My top pick is the grilled skirt steak with shrimp, paired with a delicious mango smoothie. On my first visit, I enjoyed this dish alongside maduros, rice, and beans. They offer an incredible garlic sauce that complements the meal perfectly; I recommend asking for it on the side, and be sure to squeeze some lime over the steak and drizzle the garlic sauce on top. The food was fantastic and reasonably priced. Every entrée comes with two sides, and the selection of side dishes is even more appealing. The only drawback is that not all entrées are available every day; it can be disappointing to have your heart set on a specific dish only to discover that it’s not on the menu. However, everything we tried was not only delicious, but also prepared to a high standard. Even the fried items didn’t feel greasy, and after finishing a whole steak, I didn’t feel overly stuffed. Overall, it was a great dining experience.
The food was incredibly disappointing. There was no flavor at all. The decor and music were fantastic, which is what initially made me think it would be a great experience. I tried the pork mofongo, but it was tasteless. I also had the papa rellena, which was equally bland. Everything fell well below my expectations. When the waitress asked if I wanted to take the leftovers with me, I had to decline, explaining that I didn’t enjoy the meal. Her response was simply, “Oh, okay,” as she handed me the check. Overall, I’d rate the food a 1 out of 5.
This is a wonderful little eatery! The seating is quite limited, but if you have some time to spare, it's worth waiting for a seat. I tried the ropa vieja, an appetizer sampler, and the tostones, and everything was fantastic. The sampler had a fantastic variety, including wings, chicharrón, sausage, and more. The ropa vieja was among the best I've ever tasted. I got a bit overenthusiastic and ordered the wrong sides, so I missed out on having plain rice with the ropa vieja. My friend and I visit at least once a month. La Casa never fails to deliver tasty authentic dishes. I’m Puerto Rican, so I was so happy to find a place I can go to for good food at affordable prices.
