We spent one evening at Bergerac a couple of weeks ago. Having been in France for nearly a fortnight, we fancied a change from the traditional French cuisine. Our first choice restaurant, that was just across the road from our hotel was closed that evening and we wanted to recce the route to the station, in advance of our departure the following day. Having walked to the station we realised that we were not in the nicest part of town. We were both hungry by now so instead of traipsing back into the downtown area we decided to give the Fontaine de Jade a try despite there being no other diners in the restaurant at the time. This restaurant was directly across the road from the main station entrance. The lady who ran the restaurant invited us to sit outside in the yard at the rear of the building. In terms of food, we would have preferred a formule set meal but this was not offered on the menu so we had to go a la carte. I have eaten a lot of Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese and the food was a sort of fusion of these three cuisines. I had chop suey but it was not like any I have eaten before. My wife had a salad. In actual fact, both were superb. A very pleasant surprise! When the bill arrived, we thought it to be quite reasonable. The Fontaine de Jade is certainly worth a visit!
