La Plaine-morte

We booked the place for lunch on the terrace. It was super windy and cold. It was not possible to stay there. Interestingly, half of the restaurant inside was closed (just an observation, as all other restaurants in Crans-Montana are overloaded). We waited outside for 40 minutes and then went inside to ask for the waiter (menus we also found ourselves). He was busy with other customers inside, so we waited further. The menu is very limited: fondue (28-35 CHF), soup (10 CHF), meat plate and nuggets/fries (for kids, 16 CHF). We were a lot of people, which is difficult to serve, we understand. But there were much more mistakes and the rude attitude of staff. We ordered fondue, but we didn't receive it. In some time we figured out that they put it together with other order, as it was the same fondue type. The other couple was also not aware of that and they were sitting at the other table. We got a small basket of bread for 4 people. After we finish it, we couldn't get another one for 20 minutes. We had to go around the restaurant and collect left-overs of bread, as we wanted to finish our food. Some drinks didn't arrive and the cakes were delivered after we quarreled with them. There is so much more to tell. It was the worst place to eat for me in ages. As the gondola was not working, we were said downstairs that we could have a free drink in the restaurant. We laughed, as we were sure we would never return to this place. Anyway, no one came to our table within an hour. Then we went and ordered a tee ourself. In 10 minutes the gondolas were working again and we asked if the drinks were ready. We got a reply that we wanted the drinks just because they were for free. So rude. The tables were not cleaned for hours, two waiters were running like crazy, even though there were not that many tables (I know, I worked as a waiter too)... Just horrible. So petty, as the view there is priceless. It could have been a nice place.

I can only agree with all these negative comments people have left for this restaurant. We should have avoided it to begin with but well, yesterday we happened to randomly pick that place for lunch with a group of friends. We had reseverved a table outside, which was fine to begin with but then the wind picked up and since we were ignored for taking orders for ages, we got pretty cold, some of us moved inside. However, there was not space for all of us since they decided to not open half of the restaurant and rather have us freeze in the cold. When we finally were about to get our food, they could only bring it outside, so people who had moved had to go outside to bring their food inside. This rose the problem of people supposed to be sharing fondue from one pot sitting inside and outside, which made sharing rather difficult without more arrangements.The soups and fondues were only luke warm and definitely not worth the high price. Some of us only received their drinks after reminding the staff countless times. After the whole process of stressed out lunch in the cold, two of us asked for tart directly at the bar. The waitress told us to sit down at a table, which we did but she did not bring the tarts. So we went back to remind her. She apologised with the excuse that she cannot remember our faces and that today was somehow stressful for the restaurant. Well, in my opinion they are just highly disorganised, don't care about their customers or providing good food or service. Never again, this place is an absolute joke. We lost so much time on the slopes, money for bad food and service, and our moods were pretty down after this bad experience! Avoid but for the great view....

The slightly charmless front of house team let this place down. Having pre booked a table outside we turned up slightly earlier than our booking and were told by a surly waiter to sit down at the nearest table indoors. I explained calmly we had a booking outdoors as it was a sunny day. Not interested he pointed me at the table indoors. On my third attempt I was granted the table outdoors. The food was good enough but limited menu. Pack up warm.

A real shame given the location of the restaurant. A total disgrace to the high standards of Switzerland and Crans Montana. Extremely rude staff which are constantly arguing between themselves and ignoring customers. Very slow service, disorganised, wrong orders, dirty tables. Every customer we saw around us were frustrated. Even paying the bill was a struggle!! It cannot get worse than this.. such a shame given the great location.

We stopped there for a quick break, and having a great apple pie with chantilly at the top of the mountain was a very good idea.
