La Soupe Aux Choux

As so often we selected this restaurant due to reviews on Tripadviser. This is a difficult review as I should be raving about the food and it's presentation, but the overall impression is that I really wished I had gone somewhere else, where the food might not have been so good, but I would have actually enjoyed the evening! My advice to the chef is either to go and work somewhere else or preferably start up his own place and I will happily come and visit him, for there is no doubt that he can cook, he is let down by the 'Front of House' The décor is 'minimalist' which I don't mind, but torn covers on the bench seating around the room, and ceiling spotlights that have the candle power not unlike that of a motorway intersection do not lend themselves to an enjoyable dining experience! Add a waitress who clearly wanted to be somewhere else, and we were at one with her on this, and the good food and not unreasonable prices could not lift the feeling that we had got this one wrong. By day with a different waitress and possibly sitting outside, perhaps this review might totally different but as it is, not again, thank you, There has to be a better alternative in Vitre, which turned out to be a most attractive town, and one well worth visiting

I was in Vitre for work and tried several different restaurants in the area during my stay. This restaurant was recommended by my local coworkers and it turned out to be my favorite place! (If the locals recommend it, that's always a good sign!) The french cuisine was amazing! I had a salmon spread for starter and "chunk of veal" for the main course which came with snails and a white cream sauce on top. We sat outside but next time I would suggest sitting inside in the basement area - great atmosphere. The service was excellent as well! I would 100% recommend this place if you are looking for a nice place to dine in Vitre.

We were a cycling team on the way to Bordeaux and has booked for 26. Some cyclists were late. Very late . The owners stayed open until 2330 to keep serving and then took one of our older members back to our hotel for us. Great food and service above and beyond ! Many thanks .

Nice looking place in the heart of medieval Vitre, La Soupe offers slightly chaotic hospitality with reasonably good food at a fair price. My tip, stick to the terrace or street level, don't get put into their downstairs room, it's dark and musty.

A nice restaurant with nice helpful staff who did their best to come up with something vegetarian for me. I was with 5 or 6 colleagues and they were all very happy.
