"happened on this big little cafe by chance in the evening she had a concert in the street. We had to move on so that only the musicians could warm up, but what a fantastic atmosphere. The food was great, but as it was... the concert was just what the Assiette Repas was called, which would have been good as an appetizer, but would not have filled a small child (although very favorable). What we did was delicious, homemade, local organic, really loved the ethos of the place and would like to return another day."

For a single-handed business, this is nothing short of extraordinary: locally sourced organic ingredients of the highest quality are presented daily in a simple yet subtly original menu which combines great flavours (pork with caramel, tamarind with roquefort, sweetend ewe's milk with pepper) with great attention to detail and presentational flair.Aurelie, a highly-trained pastry chef, can turn her hand to just about any culinary technique, but rather than showing off prefers to concentrate on innovative flavour combinations, while simultaneously handling front of house and table service. The bookish setting (the Lieu-Dit is a bookshop run by an eco coop) belies the sophistication of the cooking, which, while unpretentious, wouldn't be out of place in a high-class metropolitan eaterie - think early Conran).Open lunchimes Tuesday to Saturday, the daily menu offers three lovingly-presented courses (including homemeade chocolate) for 15 euros - amazing! There'a a vegetarian option, and Aurelie will also take bookings for evening partries (minimum 15 people), as well as creating gateaux to order. This really is THE place to eat in Saint Affrique, don't miss it. And best to book ahead if you want a good table.

This restaurant is run by a young couple who appear to enjoy adventurous food and really try hard to share this with their clients. Having said that on the only day I went they were definitely having an "off day". Portions were small, odd combinations - for example a puree of turnip served with salmon and food served luke warm on cold plates. Deserts were good - they make excellent macaroons but nothing to write home about. At 16Euros for the set lunch without wine this seems to me to be fighting way above its station and it certainly cannot compete with other restos serving lunch at this same price. Worth a try perhaps but realistically this is no where near the best food in the region.

happened upon this great little cafe by chance the evening they were having a concert in the street. We had to move on so only got to see the musicians warming up but what a fantastic atmosphere. The food was great, but as it was the concert only what was called the assiette repas, which would have been fine as a starter but wouldn't have filled up a small child (although very reasonably priced). What we did have was delicious, homemade, local & bio, really loved the ethos of the place and would love to go back another day.
