"The view at the restaurant is magnificent. On the day we visited, riders were practicing for the upcoming Tour de France which passes right in front of the restaurant. Lots of fun. The tables outside were fine. My wife had the salad lyonnaise and enjoyed it. It was large enough that I helped her finish it. I had the chitterlings in gratin. It was not my taste. I would recommend this restaurant. One can’t beat the view."

We decided to finish our family holiday with a nice dinner over the hills in Beaujolais at La Terrasse du Beaujolais. The setting is superb and with a balmy evening at the sunset we were in clover.. But the food which had been excellent the previous year was not as great as the view: big salads were OK although if you judge a good cook to his « vinaigrette » he could go back to school , the kids menu was fun a packet of Haribo sweets goes a long way , the tarte paysanne was delicious but the coq au vin was just a nice chicken breast dipped in a wine sauce and therefore was very dry. Desserts are huge ice creams very spectacular indeed but that’s it. But the disappointing moment was the bill when I discovered that the wine I had ordered was not the one on the bill, which was more expensive the same name and local area, but a different hamlet . So when I pointed out this to the waitress, then to the manager, I was told I should have checked the label myself which I should have , but when someone brings you a bottle and says here is your wine, you do not take your binoculars. So instead of leaving a very decent tip and the bill was over 200€ we left quite marooned and realising than in La Terrasse the client is anything but king and that the cooks need to brush up their act. A good restaurant cannot survive just by its view. Dommage. Isabelle

Having visited several times in the past the service has gone down hill, we visited for a family lunch today. The service was good until the point the food was put on the table, from that point on there was no check back on the table and we couldn’t get the attention of a waitress. The Beaujolais salad was good as expected and good value however the 28 Euro scallop, walnut and salmon salad was missing the walnuts, we tried to attract the attention of a waitress (of which there was plenty as it wasn’t busy) but to no avail. The salad was ok. After waiting twenty five minutes for the empty plates to be cleared we eventually cleared them ourselves to another table. Although a short time afterwards we did get the attention of a very polite waitress, she apologised and was very surprised we didn’t want any desserts (we have a young family and by this point they were getting restless) and she was also surprised that we found the service to be very poor. We will visit again in the hope it was a one off as the location is excellent and both the food and service in the past has been of a good standard.

We 've been coming to La Terasse for years the food, wine and view combine to make for an excellent dining experience. Except that this may no longer be the case with standards slipping. Corners are being cut and prices remain ambitious. The menu pretty much remains as it was when I first visited years ago, and whilst this is not in itself a problem, it becomes an issue if you start to execute it less well it makes comparisons very easy and compared with their previous performance, it just isn 't up to 'La Terrasse scratch '. Portion sizes are diminished, more expensive ingredients are a little harder to find on your plate and the overall impression is of a restaurant being run on a very tight financial margin. I hope this was an off day, and we 'll be back to see if this was the case, but I 'm not so sure about the future of this Beaujolais gem.

Most of the reviews for this restaurant are well out of date Three reasons to go here: the view, to try some local dishes such as andouillette (not for the faint hearted) or less risky saucisson with gratin dauphinoise and an excellent wine and mushroom sauce and the desserts. There is a chiller literally groaning with every type of french patisserie. We simply went for the Tarte Tatin which was epic. Mid price no lunch deal but one course each and a shared dessert would do for most people.
