La Venise Verte

We chose this restaurant as it was in the village where we were staying and it carried the Logis badge which we've previously found to be a reliable indication of quality. The menu looked interesting but we had been told the restaurant had a dubious reputation and had recently changed hands. It emerged that the service was in the hands of a single waiter, who had to cope with several tables and took ages between courses. Although my wife and I chose different main courses, the accompanying vegetables were exactly the same and came overcooked. When it came to payment, the waiter took my card and disappeared with it before returning several minutes later. This was sufficiently worrying for me to cancel my card the next day as I was concerned that it might have been cloned while it was out of sight. In the weeks following, there was no sign that this had happened but the waiter's conduct and careless demeanour were enough to raise fears on this point. I would strongly urge the Logis chain to remove this restaurant from their list of establishments - it does them no credit whatsoever.

Our party of four ate here on two evenings and were extremely impressed. The set menus are at 20, 27 & 35 euro for a 3 course meal and each had about four choices per course including a plat du jour. There are also a la carte options. We chose the 20 and 27 euro menus and the quality was excellent. The pumpkin soup and carpaccio of beef were the favourite starters. Steak with radish sauce, the favourite main course and a split decision between the cheese, fruit salad and mousse au chocolate for dessert. The service was excellent and the staff were very tolerant of our limited language skills! Would definitely visit again.

Lorsque nous étions sur le site du camping local, nous avons voulu nous faire plaisir une dernière nuit. Nous avons choisi un menu en trois plats avec du saumon, de la viande d'écorce et des fraises. Tout était parfait. L'hôtesse très sympathique avec son "petit aide" a créé une atmosphère parfaitement détendue. L'intérieur du restaurant était flambant neuf et vraiment magnifique. Nous recommandons La Venise Verte. Un nom amusant pour un restaurant au centre de la France. Mais il y a une bonne explication!
