A relaxing two day trip to Chateauneuf-du-Papes and Avignon in the summer. A great day walking through the streets, enjoying food, and the churches. Topped off with a quiet early evening at L'Ampelos. This well located (a short walk between Des Halles and Rue de Republique) wine shop and bar had excellent local wines, as well as many from throughout the South of France. The wide array of charcuterie and fromage matched well with delicious Corbeires from Languedoc. The service was personal and knowledgeable and I lingered for a couple of hours enjoying the local clientele and the sunset. I will make sure to spend another evening here next time I am in Provence.
We had wine and we had wine and food together. Each time was a treat because the owner provided excellent wine recommendations (and you can taste first if you like) and provided a very ample cheese/meat/bread platter for a reasonable price. The place is small--good if you want a cozy and intimate experience but not so good if it is really crowded. The owner is very friendly, speaks excellent english and is very attentive, even when it is crowded. This is the best pure wine bar we found in town.
We stumbled upon this place in the rain and where delighted by their selection of wine by the glass and the plate of cheese and dried meats (VERY reasonably priced). I was impressed by his ability to describe each of the 25 cheese to choose from. Service is pleasant (I think they are a husband and wife team, but not sure). We were so impressed we stopped by again the following evening before dinner. Don't miss this place if you are a wine lover.
It is something of a paradox in an area where some of the best wines in the world are produced it is difficult occasionally to get a glass of wine that is half decent and doesn’t come out of a box. The French seem slow to the concept of wine bars but look no further than this fantastic place. Enthusiastic knowledgable with great service and charm. One of the highlights of my trip to Avignon was to find this place by chance. Stunning wines and lovely food. The owner is a young man with a very bright future. He could not have been more welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. I stayed in here for far too long and tasted far too much wine. A great place to watch the world go by and enjoy a glass of wine. Perfect wines, lovely food and an amazing host. What's not to like?
I stumbled across this establishment and thought it an attractive prospect, especially as plates of cheese and meat were also offered at a few outside tables. It turned out to be a great choice, with fine wines offered at reasonable prices, and a very generous assiette of delicacies. I passed a very leisurely evening with good drink and a tasty selection of accompaniaments. Look it out and you will not be disappointed.

We arrived at 5pm. We ordered some expensive wines. We wanted to order tapas which were listed on the menu we received. They told us that we only could be served at 6:30pm. At 6:30pm we tried to order but they told us to leave because they booked the table for somebody else... Réservez une table maintenant
