My wife and I have eaten at many of the local restaurants in and around Forcalquier but our recent lunch at L'Auberge du Bois was both delightful and faultless and provided one of our most pleasant experiences.Located on a side road off the D4100 just east of the village of Niozelles, lunch seating was arranged under the trees and around the central fountain providing a glorious setting.The food was thoughtful and tasty and service attentive but not intrusive. My beef dish was the best I have had in France.Accommodation is also available. The young couple who operate the auberge have only taken over about 3 months ago and we wish them all the best. Strongly recommended.
Wanted to book a special place for my husband on Father's day. Having read the 2015 reviews, we decided to book. Big disappointment: only one menu for Father's day with 2 choices for each course. Choices more appropriate for a winter menu (foie gras ) . Veal course was served with farigoule-infused artichokes and an over cinnamon-flavoured semolina cake, really didn't work with the delicate taste of veal. My cutlery was not changed although I had fish as a main course. My slice of foie gras had a blood spot... and there were more buzzing insects than a Florida swamp. All this for over 30€ per person.
L'auberge est un bel endroit pour un bon déjeuner. On peut s'asseoir dehors dans la cour avec la fontaine qui éclabousse, les tables bien séparées pour la sphère privée, les arbres donnent de l'ombre, c'est tout beau et très provençal. La cuisine est bonne. Rien d'exceptionnel, mais typique... de ce qu'on trouve dans de nombreux restaurants et auberges de prix moyen en Provence. Vous n'aurez pas d'expérience qui changeront votre vie, mais vous passerez tout de même un très agréable moment.
We had a delightful meal here one evening on our vacation. We loved how out-of-the-way it was, very secluded, romantic and the food was great! The pics do not show how lovely, cosy and charming the restaurant is. Staff were great and menu choices had...something for everyone. Intimate, authentic and delicious!

Notre deuxième visite dans ce magnifique petit restaurant se situant hors des sentiers battus entre Forcalquier et La Brillane. Une sélection imaginative de plats et nous avons passé une soirée festive.
nous avons dîné sur cette terrasse, agréable et cosy. personnel sympathique. manger était bon, mais nous pensons qu'il n'est pas facile de trouver de très bons restaurants dans ce quartier en face.
Notre deuxième visite dans ce magnifique petit restaurant juste à l'écart entre Forcalquier et La Brillane. Un choix imaginatif de plats et de vins et nous nous sommes régalés. Merci!
