Visited the Laurel today for Lunch. Sat outside in a very nice area and served by courteous staff. Ordered coffee drinks came promptly followed shortly by one meal. A not too bad steak pie and chips. I didn’t appreciate being required to eat with wooden knife and fork a metre from people inside using steel? Where was the staff member coming around asking ‘us everything ok with your meal?’ After a further 20 mins the second (gluten free) meal hadn’t arrived so I found the waitress who scuttled off to investigate. She returned a few minutes later to apologise as the order had not been processed and would be a further fifteen minutes. There was no offer to placate us, no restaurant manager rush...
My family and I went to Laurelbank for lunch after attending a wedding at the nearby Balbirnie House. Unfortunately, we had to wait over an hour for our soups to arrive, followed by an additional 20 minutes for our main courses. To be honest, it would have been better if the food never arrived. The pasta lacked any taste or flavor, and the curry was equally disappointing. It was possibly the worst meal I have had in a long time. One of our party members, who was a vegetarian, requested potato skins with garlic mayo but was shocked to find that they contained bacon when she started eating them. This oversight is unacceptable when serving a vegetarian. Needless to say, we will not be returning...
Rang up to ask if they did Takeaway as I was staying in the area and didn’t want ‘fast food’. At first they said no but then a gentleman rang me straight back and said they would! Result. I ordered and collected 15mins later. Steak pie, with chips and fresh veg. It was piping hot and had a sturdy container. The meat was beautifully tender with a crisp pastry pie casing, and having fresh veg with a takeaway meal was excellent and only cost about £10. The restaurant when I collected was busy and it was a Sunday night around 7pm. Seemed a nice place and based on my experience I would recommend 100%. I would use again if I’m in the area.
My wife and I went to the restaurant for dinner on Monday night. The staff were very helpful and we had already made a reservation online. We brought our son's dog with us, which he enjoyed since they are great with dogs and provided bowls of water and lots of cuddles. We ordered from the supper menu, which was a great deal - buy one meal and get the second meal half price, available Monday to Wednesday. I had the steak pie and my wife had the Mac n cheese, both were fantastic and worth it. We will definitely be returning.

I see that there is a mixed bag of previous reviews! I can only comment on our experience during a brief stop for coffee on a Sunday afternoon. We had a friendly greeting on arrival and were shown to a table. The coffee was good and the scones came with jam and clotted cream delicious, and well priced. There was also an offer of water at the table, which we didn't need. Service was fine. No complaints from us!
This was a spur of the moment booking but turned out to be an excellent choice. This small hotel could not be faulted for friendly service and fantastic food. Fabulous cooked breakfast and my husband raved about “the best steak pie ever!”
We stopped by for a quick lunch in the beer garden with our dog. The food was average, with a typical pub menu. The service was good, though we were not a fan of the wooden cutlery.
Very nice meal with good service. Good value with large positions. Staff were all nice and friendly. Chicken burger and beef burger were both very good .

Do not come to this hotel if you want to sleep. Party nights are til 2am and your bedroom floor will be vibrating til then. I would not recommend
