le buron du col

We were visiting Auvergne on an untypical day in late May when it was snowing and sleeting and very cold. We stopped here for lunch. The menu is simple, and we decided to have the local fare of Truffade Maison (fried potatoes and LOTS of...cheese in a sort of galette or omelette, accompanied by a LOT of sliced ham). It was a huge amount of extremely heavy food. Strangely addictive, though. I wanted to keep eating, even after I was very full. Since the small restaurant was empty when we arrived, we were astonished to have a large group of older hikers appear, seeming out of nowhere, to shed their packs and coats and have lunch. The place was instantly full! Very warm and inviting, and recommended to anyone who is in the area and would like to try the local food.

I was there with my girlfriend and my best friend. We had dinner during a cold winter evening and couldn't tell it was winter. The interior design and atmosphere are all too warm and welcoming. I had the typical truffade which they make with goose...fat and let me tell you, that's a real treat. Plenty of food, delicious taste, good wine. What my dinner mates ate looked equally tasty. Like most people before me I suppose, I strongly recommend to take the detour up to the Buron du Col, you won't be disappointed.

We came here and wanted to eat but unfortunately it was fully booked. They offered us seats on the terrace but it was just a bit too cold too sit outside. Looked really nice and good prices but make a reservation to be sure you...get a place.

A very pleasant atmosphere ans a perfect dinner. The mountain decor and the kindness of our hosts wa svery pleasant. The tradional food is delicious and hearty. It is an unforgettable experience.

Stopped for a drink walking up Puy de la Tache from Le Mont-Dore. Would have got something to eat if we hadn't brought a picnic!
