Beth and I were in Crecy, and we were hungry and thirsty after exploring the pretty village. We saw a faded sign above a half-opened door - 'Crêperie ~ Saladerie' - and decided to give it a try for lunch. We slid in apprehensively, and immediately felt better when we saw two other guests - coincidentally, the staff members of the village tourist bureau who had helped us earlier in the morning. The handsome proprietor of the little eatery brought us the menus - only in French, and he didn't speak English - but luckily, the affable tourist bureau staffer interrupted his lunch to explain the menu to us. We each chose a galette (savoury pancake) with different fillings - Beth had chicken, cheese, onions and peppers; I had ham, cheese and chopped walnuts. The cheese was strong and delicious and oozed through the galette as I cut into it. Each plate came with a fresh green salad and we only waited about five minutes for the freshly prepared meal - all done by the proprietor. What a pity we didn't have time for dessert. The food was fabulous and the experience was fun. Highly recommended.
