"The terrace of this restaurant has a lovely view of the river Lot. This makes for an ideal setting for lunch or dinner. The food is of good quality but nothing too adventurous or particularly exciting. It is a traditional menu which is not particularly extensive menu, although the fish options are very good. For families it is worth noting that the options for younger children are fairly limited."

We had been to see the Machine de Watt in Fumel and were running rather late for lunch and on the off chance stopped at Penne d’Agenais. We saw Le Moulin, not particularly pretentious on the outside, stepped in and we rather suspect they had ceased serving for the day. But no problem, they were very welcoming and took us through to the little balcony which has a nice ambience overlooking the River Lot. With their limited English and our limited French we got on fine, had a very pleasant meal that was a credit to the chef, and thought their prices were most reasonable. Their practical way of updating available flavours of sorbets and ice creams was to affix post-it notes with the latest revisions. As the sun shifted position they cranked an overhead umbrella out to shade us and we can only say we thoroughly enjoyed our stop at Le Moulin.

To be honest, we probably wouldn't have stopped by this restaurant, but the local evening food market had been cancelled and we needed to find somewhere to eat. The front is a little foreboding, but once you are inside, you are sure of a very warm welcome, and lovely food. It is clearly a family business, and the chef is very proud of his restaurant, and rightly so. If you order the moules et frites, expect to be eating for some time - there are mounds to get through! My confit de canard was a little tough, but very tasty. The grilled swordfish was so very soft and very tasty. My advice? Don't judge a book by its cover!

This small bar/restaurant has a balcony with a terrific view of the River Lot. The balcony is not very fancy, but the food is good and the evening sun hits the area. In other words on a good evening you can enjoy great outdoor eating. There is also an indoor section but the real star is the view of the Lot. Incidentally you could easily stop in Penne without realising there is a modernised old town up the hill beyond the church with the round dome. There is an ice cream parlour, a bar and a couple of restaurants there. The church itself is interesting with lovely stained glass.
