Le Petit Flot Restaurant is upstairs in The Tank Stream Hotel Sydney (Pitt St), with easy access from the Wynyard Light Rail station. As it opens at 5.30 pm it is a good choice for pre-theatre dinner if you are going to the Opera House or the City Recital Hall. Meals. A reasonable range of choices, our entrees and main meals were quite good, although green peas featured in a lot of dishes on the menu. It is French inspired so do not expect a traditional French cuisine. Wine. A satisfactory range, reasonable prices. Ambience: We sat in the alcove area overlooking Australia square outdoor bars. Very pleasant. The larger part of the restaurant has some long tables that seem to cater for groups....

Le Petit Flot presented a very dark and dismal ambience. Initially, there were no guests but us at 6 o'clock. Not far away, at the same time, restaurants were overflowing with customers. The French identity of this restaurant appears dubious and evidence to support this included our meals compare Bistro Papillon not far away). Entrees were just ok, but hardly representative of French cuisine. The pork belly main lacked delicacy and consisted of two long, chunky strips of fatty pork, not easily cut. On the whole, for us, a total disappointment.

This restaurant is as french as the Taj Mahal. Food is very average with absolutely no finesse shown. My braised beef cheeks was beef brisket, the red wine jus was completely missing. My wife had roasted pork belly with skin crackling, except the skin didn't crackle and the serving was bib enough for 2 people. The whole roasted spatchcock was exactly that, a huge bird that our friend had to pull apart, And the barramundi shin was not crispy either. A shared entree of chicken liver pate was nice. I recommend trying anywhere else.

Le Petit Flot is tucked away upstairs in the Tank Stream Hotel in the city. The design and decor is very good. Service was polite and friendly. A varied menu with something their for most tastes. The wine list is quite good and is a good match for the menu. Being lunch time, we didn't wish to order big meals or go for 3 courses so ordered one main of the duck and a crispy pork roll to share with a glass of red each. Both meals were very good. Nothing innovative in our dishes, but nicely presented and tasty.
