As regular visitors to the Lot et Garonne region of France, no visit is complete without at least one meal at Le Saint Cochon.Every meal we have had there has been simply superb. It is always a set menu at a set price, with wine included. Excellent value for money coupled with top quality food. Our most recent visit was for lunch on Easter Sunday and every course was delicious. It is clear from the presentation to the taste of every dish that the chef, who is also one of the owners, has a passion and a talent for cooking. Ruud and Pascale did wonderful work for all 83 people who attended the charity lunch for Cancer support France on 18th September and provided a lunch that was enjoyed by all the charitable people who attended. The lunch started a little late because there were stalls and stands selling items for the charity and the weather (not anyones fault) was a bit windy and cool. With 83 people some of us had to sit outside on the lovely terrace but only three complaints were heard that they were too cold. Everyone else thought that they were at a UK party where the weather would have been considered great. This restaurant is outstandingly good. The welcome is friendly and warm, the food is delicious and the views are magnificent. There are no menus so you take what's on offer but what's on offer is a superb meal including wine. An entrée of salmon ceviche, followed by a steak that was so tender and perfectly cooked the like of which it would be hard to better. There was a cheese course on offer and for dessert a trio of tart, sorbet and a mousse. Ruud is happy to provide other variations to the menu so discuss this when booking. All the cooking is done on an individual table basis so service may be slow but in France this is the norm.
We enjoyed the food and the service was good but the evening was dominated by the full wall video projection of 1980's pop of which Celine Dion played a major role. I found it hard to concentrate on my food or the conversation with videos of Phil Collins, Duran Duran, Bonnie Tyler etc blasting away... . On a personal note, I had made a conscious effort to forget this musical era only to find it making a comeback in the middle of a French field ,,, how bizarre !!Its a nice place and the owners have clearly put a lot into it but suggest that they retain these videos for their personal out of hours use
Nous venons de passer trois jours et nuits d'automne dans ce magnifique refuge rural situé dans la belle campagne autour de Nojals et Clotte. Nous avons en fait assisté à des funérailles en famille. Les propriétaires étaient très accueillants et nous avons apprécié les repas du soir ici à deux reprises qui… comme d'autres critiques l'ont dit, étaient le 'Repas du jour': des ingrédients frais cuisinés à la perfection. C'est un peu isolé, mais c'est ce qui rend Le Saint Cochon si attrayant et surtout.
Lovely experience in quaint rural barn, renovated into such a great restaurant. Loved all the decorative piggies! Food was great value and delicious. Restaurant run by Dutch couple. Exceptionally warm welcome, outside terrace with terrific views for aperitif. No menu, meal is set and price includes wine. Beef steak main was superb. Desert was trio of puds. All delicious...and you really can't go hungry here!
Endroit fantastique, magnifiquement situé. Les propriétaires sont très accueillants et attentionnés. La nourriture est absolument excellente et très abordable.
