This is a restaurant with an exceptional view and setting on the lac. The menu is innovative and the dishes are good even if the portions are on the small side and the desserts are not their strong points. Being located in a hotel/palace, you have the impression that the Viu aims to be at the gastronomic level but what puzzled me is that: the furniture is oldish, the windows dirty! the restaurant shares restrooms with the hotel the service is not perfect (dishes served at the wrong table, long wait time for the bill, no sommelier, run out of bread, forget a special request) when opening the wardrobe to had you your coat, you see the mess of vacuum cleaner, iron and other items stored randoml...
We arrived without a reservation for a Friday lunch and weren 't allowed onto the hotel parking, as it is reserved for hotel guests. We asked if the restaurant had a table available, and were assured that this was bien sur the case. Fair enough, so we parked outside, walked up to the restaurant, and learned therer that the kitchen closed early that day. To the credit of the staff, they did find a solution, we could chose Main Desert from the menu. The food was ok, presented nicely, but without any culinary surprise. Service seemed a little slow. Overall a very good experience. I will not give a 5/5 and I will explain why. In the beginning, after I made a reservation for my birthday to the restaurant, 2 weeks before, they didn't find. Apparently the reception didn't forward my request to the restaurant. Apart from this, a very nice server found as a table, offer us the drinks and made our dinner a nice time. I really appreciated his effort to make us more confortable us in the beginning I was frustrated. Staying in the hotel, we booked the restaurant a few months in advance for a Saturday dinner. We had a table by the window, which gave a perfect view of the lake such a wonderful setting. I had the mackerel to start, lamb main and local cheeses for dessert. The starter was ok, but was a little too fanciful in presentation and lacking in taste. Nevertheless, the lamb was excellent, and the local cheeses were delicious. The service was really good and we were well looked after. N.B., the formal dress code. Ive wanted to try this restaurant for a few years and the experience didn't disappoint.
We were walking along the lake and wanted to have some warm beverages to take a break. We came inside and asked for a table but hostesses said us that the kitchen was closed. Then we asked to have some tea and were asked to sit down in the lobby near the bar to wait a servant. Having waited around 10 minutes no one came to us. We decided to step out. Very disappointing behavior of hotel/restaurant/bar staff.
La vue sur le lac est à couper le souffle, alors arrivez tôt avant le coucher du soleil pour apprécier la beauté. La nourriture était bonne, bien préparée, bien présentée et avec un bon choix. Nous avons mangé ici pour le dîner de Noël. C'était le meilleur repas de notre voyage. Ma femme parle encore des pétoncles. J'ai eu un plat de canard qui était tout simplement incroyable. Si jamais nous revenons dans la région du lac d'Annecy, nous mangerons au Viu.
