WHAT A GEM! I took one of my colleagues to lunch last week at Lie-n-Den. The food was just as delicious as always, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I have been coming here for years and Bob and Kathy, the owners, are truly wonderful people. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is cool, and it makes me proud to be from Bakersfield. Bob and Kathy have decided to sell the restaurant after fifteen years of serving the working class of Bakersfield. I had the full chili size and my friend had the house cheeseburger with fries. I remember when the previous owner, Big John, didn't offer fries, so this was a nice touch. If you're looking for a cold beer and great food, Lie-n-Den is a fantastic choice...
This restaurant is a classic neighborhood burger spot with some additional offerings. It has been a staple in the community for many years and continues to serve traditional, delicious food. The straight chili, made with ground beef and no beans, is a personal favorite of mine. You can also opt for the chili with beans. The portions are generous, especially the chili sizes, which are known to satisfy even the biggest appetites. Their steaks are also quite impressive. Keep in mind that this establishment serves only beer and wine. The owners and staff are welcoming, and the atmosphere is typically filled with friendly, long-time customers. Tuna melt. Frito boat. Chili size. Pastrami sandwich. Whatever the soup of the day is. Cold beer. An iced tea that never gets empty. You can't go wrong here for an excellent grilled bar-style lunch. The reviews I've read praising the burgers all make them sound really good, I just haven't gotten past my favorites yet. If you're from Bakersfield, count on running into somebody you know, or who grew up with your dad, or at least recognizing a famous Bakersfield racer in the photos lining the walls. It's a small room, but there are two big TV's hung strategically, so you get the whole sports bar vibe in a little hometown bar and grill. Go have a burger and a cold one!
I had been wanting to come here since I had seen an episode of Comedy Central's Nathan for You that the restaurant was featured on. The food exceeded any and all expectations that I had about the food. Hands down some of the best chili I've ever had and the burgers are equally so enjoyable. Bob and Kathy are incredible friendly and welcoming and I can't wait until I have to return to Bakersfield so I can enjoy another great meal here.

I used to love this restaurant for lunch. It's been over 30 years since I last dined here, and nothing has changed, from the decor to the delicious food and excellent service. This place has a nostalgic charm and friendly atmosphere that reminds me of old Bakersfield. The same owners and menu have kept it consistent, always clean and welcoming. Be sure to arrive early for lunch as it can get crowded quickly.
Stopped in while downtown and was reminded just how great the burgers are here. And the macaroni salad. And the brewed iced tea. Bob and Kathy have a great place, expanding the legacy of John and Joyce. I'm sure the chili sizes are as good as ever, but I had to have a bacon Ortega cheeseburger. The mac salad is dill, my fave. Best part is the people.
I love this place!!! The food is simply fantastic, and the chili chili beans are a must. The place is spotless, minus the carpet...I have to keep it real. If you haven't been here you must check it out for a great quick lunch or breakfast. It's a true hidden gem in good ol' Bako! Now what are you waiting for...try it out for yourself.
This awesome place to eat gave free lunch to me and my work crew a few weeks ago. They appreciated the work we did maintaining the freeway landscaping adjacent to their property. My work crew is all Veterans. Great atmosphere, Great service. Awesome burger, fries and lemonade!! Thank you Lie-N-Den!!

Stopping here with my dad and a steak sandwich. It was pretty good for an old dive. It's kind of a fun place to go for lunch if you're on that side of town. I like the people that work there. The prices were not bad at all
I guess this is their subtle way of telling us that they don't wash their hands after cleaning the toilets then making our drinks and meals. This is seriously in the rest room above the men's toilet! (See attached picture)
