"Hadn't eaten at Maguro for a long time. Glad to see new additions to the menu. Service was good. Did not enjoy the Tuna Tataki - not nicely seared. Didn't seem like freshly done. Not good enough to make me try it again soon."

Having moved recently to the Tsawwassen/Ladner area, we've tried out all of the Japanese Restaurants in the area for a new favourite. Maguro is the best for variety, innovation, taste, quality and ambience. It is always busy, which is a sign it's very popular!My test dish is to order Chirashi Don (or Chirashi Sushi), a bowl of sushi rice topped with a variety of sashimi. Maguro has the most generous amount of shashimi and most variety of any Japanese restaurant I've been to. There is an expansive menu of items, all the usual plus a lot of their own creations. You'll see a creative assortment of sushi dishes on wooden slats on the wall. I always forget about them and order from the menu, then...
I just left this restaurant and although I never write reviews, I was so appalled by the food and service, I must warn others. The restaurant closes at 2130 ( or 9:30), we arrived at 2045 to be met by a waitress sweeping the floors. Warning! But we ignored it because, hey we're hungry. We order nothing fancy. The food was ok, except for the tempura which tasted like a churro. Imagine a cinnamon prawn. Not good. However that's not the worst. While we were eating, and I mean actually chewing food, the waitress brought the credit card machine to the table and asked us to pay. It's 2120, 10 minutes to closing. Not particularly impressed by this place. The fish was fresh but the restaurant was in bad shape. The restroom was disgusting, and you have to shimmy past a cluttered hallway to get there. We ordered 3 rolls, and only really enjoyed one of them, we couldn't even finish the 3rd one. The tables weren't comfortable to sit in (I even stacked two of the loose pillows, still no good). Menu was difficult to navigate as there were some translation issues. Service was not good- we never got our water refilled once. I think you would be much happier driving into Vancouver to get some sushi. I do not recommend this place.
Even in Tokyo and other large cities one can experience terrible food but in Japan when one goes to a sushi restaurant gourmets order the egg omelet sushi to get an indication of the taste of the chef. If one did so in this excuse for a Japanese restaurant, one would leave immediately. All menu items were served at the same time with no consideration for the appetizer or main and the quality was so poor it should embarrass any person of Japanese origin. It's a mystery that this sweat shop receives any favorable reviews. People should expect more. This place does not deserve to be in business. Réservez une table maintenant
Did not have to wait for a table - but for service. Major shortage of staff. The food excellent and very fresh and tasty and very well presented. The warm Saki nice. The Sushi pieces a nice portion size and plenty of Wasabi and ginger. As mentioned before, nobody came to the table, to clear the dishes and ask if things are ok. The bill was presented -- no thank you or did you enjoy it - was ask why no tip on my credit card - it was left at the table - I thought that was rather rude! Again...the food was nice if you prepared to wait!!!
Special rolls are creative. Nice assortment of carpaccio options. (This is not common among sushi restaurants.) Most sushi restaurants make a balanced meal difficult to get because of a lack of vegetables on the menu. Maguro does have house green, and broccoli salads. Kudos to Maguro for all this. Only shortcoming is white rice only; no option of brown. It's a pity there is not this more healthful and increasingly popular choice. Still, this place is a very good spot for sushi
This is the best sushi in lower mainland BC! I love my sushi and this is definitely one of my favorites. There is frequently a line to get seated but it is worth the wait. The caterpillar roll, dynamite roll, and woonia roll are fantastic. Sashimi is extremely fresh. They have a nice selection of salads and carpaccio as well. Do make a reservation to be on the safe side. There is plenty of parking available outside.
This is our 'go-to' local favourite restaurant. It is always busy so reservations recommended, but they do take walk-ins. The tempura is tasty with light batter. Without fail, we always order the wooing roll which has chopped scallop and tobiko inside, then topped with tempura halibut and a spicy sauce. Réservez une table maintenant
Maguro makes good fresh sushi, although the pieces are very large by japanese standards.ambiance is very traditional and the staff is always on the go.If you like typical large north american portions Maguro is a good spot (but always very busy if you want to eat in)
