I take my 95 year old grandfather to lunch every Saturday, and he frequently likes to go to the Main Street Cafe at 17th Main. There has been a small diner at this location since at least the 1940s when my other grandfather worked there as a car hop. While the current building isn't that old, it isn't in the best of repair. Most of the booths have been patched with duct tape repeatedly, and the overall cleanliness definitely leaves something to be desired. I had to ask for fresh drinks for both of us this visit because both glasses were dirty. The food is decent, moderately priced, and filling, though. Main Street Cafe has had a troubled past but thanks to Golden Oak driving Elaine way, it is a dramatically different place. The food has always been good and reasonably priced with decent serving size, but since Elaine has been working there the service is excellent and better the attitude of the wait staff is exceptional. It is a pleasure going there now.
Was excited to try this place given recent reviews and always like a local diner/cafe/restaurant…unfortunately, It did not live up to expectations. Our waitress forgot one of our plates and then brought it out cold. The experience was decent at best. Mediocre service, mediocre food. Price was fine. Won’t be going back!
A one man band during dinner service, in a diner during dinner is not my cup of tea. I couldnt hear my self think, talk on the phone or have a conversation.
