We quite enjoyed Mambo Pizza! Rather unassuming and small, it is located in downtown Nanaimo about an hour and a half north of Victoria, British Columbia. We're a vegan family and enjoy good pizza as long as it doesn't have items like egg or dairy in the crust and can easily be veganized. More and more places seem to offer vegan cheese, as does Mambo (they can use Daiya brand vegan cheese). My barometer is this: to my taste, a good pizza with fresh ingredients can be excellent with no cheese at all. If we're traveling and come to a pizzeria that isn't so good, then a choice of having vegan cheese is welcome. I generally cook with no added fat and prefer a good vegan pizza that stands on its...
They have great pizza down at Mambo's. It's just a little hole in the wall pizza joint but these are often the best places, and this one definitely is. Try the overdose if you don't mind it a little spicy. Both are great in my view. I just wish the pizza sauce was a little more flavorful here, it could be a little sweeter. I would caution people on ordering pizza that isn't sweet enough or is too dry as the sauce here won't make up for it. So add pineapple or whatever you have to do to get the right flavor. The toppings and dough are top notch here. Other than the underwhelming and sort of bland sauce(If you build your pizza with this in mind it really won't matter.), this place is the bomb!
Mambo Pizza is my go-to place for take out or delivery pizza. They have an extensive number of pizza options, including some of the most creative veggie options I have seen. What I like best, however, is the option to get four different pizza choices on one pizza - hard not to make everyone happy with this option! The pieces are large, so I always cut them in half. Prices are reasonable too!
Gourmet pizza? Not sure who thought up the name of this place or what people mean when they comment about how authentic this place is. Authentic what? Canadian? Because these pizzas sure aint italian.Nothing wrong with the food or service, its pretty 'standard edition' north american pizza, if that is what youre into then save yourself a couple of dollars and go to the fresh slice instead. This is definitely the best pizza nanaimo has to offer and I would even say the whole island. 45 minute delivery was very reasonable and I love that they have 18" pizzas! Highly recommend this place. Everything is fresh, they put a perfect and very generous balance of all toppings and sauce. I have never had pizza this good since my home town. And I know pizza.
We recently tried Mambo's vegan pizza...now we're hooked! Delicious crust, fresh veggie toppings and authentic cheesy taste and texture. Great service and fast delivery! We also pre-ordered for our staff meeting and it was delivered on time and everyone loved it; gluten free crust too!
