What a wonderful change. Not knowing what to expect turned into a fabulous evening. The decor is simple but functional with heavy tables and matching chairs. The staff, well what do you say? Friendly, polite and helpful sums them all up. As for the food, this will be a little different for some dinners but if you have traveled through or lived in Africa then there are some familiar old friends on the menu. Flavors are second to non and meat falls off the bone. Between the 6 of us we had a variety of different dishes and everyone of us went away saying we will be back. Good food takes a little longer to make so expect a moderate wait for your main and dont expect all the dishes to arrive at o...

We visited on a weekday on a Groupon for 4 for dinner. We made a booking online but unfortunately the chef did not have our booking. The problem was quickly resolved when we showed our voucher and booking. We ordered Kai Wot(spicy lamb stew), Hilib Ari(lamb hot plate), and 2 chicken Somali biriyanis. The lady wait staff was very patient explaining to us what the dishes we ordered were. We did not wait long before the dishes arrived. We found the foods we ordered very tasty and the servings were huge. We found out that we were served beef biriyani instead of chicken, perhaps communication breakdown? We have never eaten African(Somalian) foods before and based on our first encounter at Mamma A...

This is an unusual little gem. The restaurant itself is part of a suburban shopping centre building. Inside and out is less than glamorous, though they do have plans to redecorate. I have been here three times now and will keep going back. The service has improved over time as the staff get more practice. There are several vegetarian dishes available too. I've tried the bean stew and the spinach soup which is a tasty thick spinach dish eaten with their delicious rice or breads (rather than a traditional soup). The flavours are really good. We had home made chai spiced ice cream and a pot of hot chai to finish and I was entirely satisfied with my meal.

First time to this restaurant and I was not familiar with the food. I was there for take away. The young man that served me was so nice and really helpful. He advised me on what would be great and he was right. I ordered two dishes, one chicken and one lamb together with some rice and the bread. It was fantastic, we also received a small salad which was an added bonus. I've seen the restaurant from the outside and was alway a bit apprehensive about what it would be like, would I know what to order??? I didn't need to worry, it was fantastic the staff were helpful and friendly and the food was just perfect! I will definitely be back. You guys rock! Réservez une table maintenant

There were six in our party and as we had never tried African food before, ordered a variety of dishes. We were impressed by MA's samosas and herb fritters, served with a green chilli dipping sauce. All the mains were served in attractive, mini claypots. For us, the standout dishes were the Kai Wot, a spicy Ethiopian lamb stew with berbera seasoning, Hilib Biskeeti, beef steak, marinated in garlic and traditional spices and Suqaar digaag, diced chicken stewed with onion, carrot, potatoes and spices. For dessert we had MA's mango ice cream. The fresh mango flavour was a refreshing way to end our banquet.

A non descript shopping centre but this is a little gem! We were gifted a Groupon for Mamma's and didn't really know what to expect. I followed advice from previous reviewers and ordered the Kai Wot, which is lamb stew. It was amazing. Really rich flavours, well cooked meat, great taste and such a big portion! The Somali rice was a winner too. And then there's the homemade cinnamon ice-cream. Glad to know they also do takeaway. Will definitely be back. Oh and the girls who work there were very friendly and helpful. FYI it is a no alcohol venue.

Having grown up in Nollamara before it became so multi-cultural, I was interested to try this African restaurant. My husband and I have not been to Northern Africa and weren't sure what to expect. What we found was food deliciously flavoured with spices such as turmeric and coriander and served with rice or chapatti style breads. We finished with a chai latte, which was delicious. We will return.

Cold! Door continually left open with exceptionally cold weather. The continual traffic in and out with the irritating sound of the door chime each time someone went in our out. The food was plentiful but really bland and the decor drab. The only good thing was the samosas. Réservez une table maintenant
