Always five stars, always a line, always bring cash!! A Des Moines icon. I love the way I already have my mind made up before I go inside, but as you move in the line you can see all of the other fabulous, mouth watering sandwiches ready to be dressed and warmed and suddenly you're second guessing your original decision. Not to worry here, you can't go wrong! My favorite sandwich is the Vito's. I order it every time with mild or sweet peppers. I did try to mix it up once and tried the hot peppers, they are not hot, but the sandwich didn't taste the same, so always the original for me. Their salads and soups are divine, as well as the brownies or scotcharoo. I don't know of another family own...
This is a lovely hidden gem. We discovered it through a TripAdvisor review while passing through Des Moines, and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent, and the prices were quite reasonable. We tried the Corned Beef Sandwich served cold and the warm Vito with mild peppers. If you visit on a Monday, don't miss their Vito Monday special, starting at just $5!
Good prices, no nonsense deli. They have great bread, real meat and cheese. Always have a few sides- pasta salad, etc. Usually Always chocolate chip cookies and a few bars to serve from. Pepsi fountain products but they have coke products in the bottle. A Des Moines lunch favorite for us.
