As a positive individual, I typically enjoy trying out new restaurants, however, my recent experience at this particular establishment left me feeling quite uncomfortable. As someone who is married to a Mexican woman, I am no stranger to the stereotypical service often encountered at older Mexican restaurants as an African American. Unfortunately, this restaurant took it to another level by following me to the bathroom, which I found completely unnecessary and intrusive. After the incident, I did appreciate the kind gesture of the younger female worker who offered me some chips, but I couldn't help but notice the older worker and her male colleague having a good laugh at my expense. Dined inside cheeky decor inside a large partially cavernous room cement floor for easy cleaning. Food was excellent and nicely presented. Pricing was higher than expected, but offerings were numerous. Flavors were spot on for the dish and each dish had a unique taste (not all the same with only a variation in the name or protein). If you go, know Spanish everything is in Spanish and servers speak little English.
We went to the Diaz Ordaz location a few years ago and loved it. Today was our first time to the Lemon Grove location and I think it might be even better! We ordered a coctel de pulpo y cameron, una tostada especial, y un aguachon. It was all delicious and super fresh, but the aguachon really stood out. It had a great balanced spice that was addicting and I think is the best aguachile I've ever had!
The aguachile was good. The ladies serving were nice and attentive. There was a drunk guy harassing them and going behind the bar which was quite annoying. They did stop serving him beer and gave him a non alcoholic beer which he didn't notice. Sorry for the servers who had to deal with that. You guys did great. I will be coming back. Food is decent but service is subpar... waited a very long time before someone finally took our drink order and that was only because we waved her down and even then the server acted bothered. I had to get up for my own salt, tabasco and waaaaay toomuch ice in beer glasses why are you putting ice in a beer glass??!
