We have been eating at Sammy 's (both locations for many years. The food is terrific, the atmosphere is delightful, and—until this visit—the service has been quite good. This time, however, the service failed miserably. I requested a salad to split with my wife. The server brought it on one large plate, and when I requested small plates to do the split with my wife, he argued with me about this(! , said he expected me to split it with all four of my party (the other two had their own salad , and too quite a while to produce an extra plate for us to split the salad. Overall we had a really bad meal there tonight. Our waitress was very busy and was very quick and short with us. My salmon was drenched in a sauce and the gluten free pasta that was the side never arrived. I asked for it 3 times and it was supposed to come with the salmon. The server never offered any apology for this and just gave excuses. At the end of the meal they finally gave me the pasta to go home with and it was floating in a greasy sauce. I threw it in the trash! The pizza my friend got looked disgusting with dark greasy fried eggplant pieces on it. She couldn't even eat it and the server could see that and didn't do anything.
Haven't been in 2 years. The food is consistently excellent as it was last night. Four of us had a variety of dishes and we all gushed. Our server Ally was very young and awesome beyond her years. One of the BEST servers we've had in a long time. She was knowledgeable about the menu/food, asked all the right questions, provided great advice, and was incredibly personable. It was almost like she enjoyed her job and cared about her customers, a bigger deal these days. Sammy's has been and continues to be a wonderful eatery.
The food was very bland which surprised both of us. We started with the crab toast which was partially burnt and the bread got super soggy. I had the tortellini and there was no flavor. My husband had shrimp, crab papadeli and just no seasoning again very bland. The bread and dip were the best part. Our waiter rarely came to the table so we never received refills on drinks. Food was excellent. Service was subpar. Waitress was nice but she seemed to have too many tables to take care of and didn't come over often to check on us. The person I was with tried to ask the waitress about food or beverages and she walked away before he could get his question out. Also the table next to us stayed dirty the entire two hours we were there even though the party of two had left before we were even seated.
Love this place and miss it when I don't get there regularly. We sat outside and they just remodeled to give shade in the summer and warmth in the colder days. Just a lovely evening with fabulous food. Had linguini with white clam sauce. Sooo many clams! The bread and olive oil are to die for starters! We will be back again soon!
Will repeat place was a little loud for my liking and service was very slightly lacking being that they weren't too busy but not major complaints. Calamari was “meh” but the oil for the bread was one of the best I've ever had Will repeat Réservez une table maintenant
