Love love love Beef Curry Udon. I was craving for some beef curry udon and what better place to go than Marugame Udon. The restaurant is located at the City Center Bishop Ranch in San Ramon and it's a great plaza. The service is pretty simple.. you get in line and order what you like, they prepare everything for you in front and then you take your order once they hand it to you in a few minutes. You can move along the line and grab a paper tray to add more items such as tempura shrimp, mixed tempura, gyoza, and more. Marugame is always a fun treat! My family and I prefer coming to the San Ramon location as opposed to the one in Berkeley. There's plenty of shops around and a convenient parking garage. There's plenty of choices to choose from including add ons. My sister and I ordered a large Nikutama (delicious sweet beef and shared it. There's some to go utensils by the soda fountain, where customers can grab containers, utensils, sauces, etc. We just used one of the to go containers as a bowl when we shared. I used to really like this place. I loved getting the chicken teriyaki bowl with rice but they took it off the menu for a while. I ordered it for the first time in forever yesterday and got some shrimp teriyaki and it tasted greasy, like the oil wasn't hot enough. Well, maybe that's on me I did order it around 11:30 am. Today I ordered ramen, figured they can't mess that up and I was really in the mood. The broth tastes rancid. Like it went bad from them leaving it out for a week. It was inedible. I can't even eat it and I wouldn't even feed it to a dog. Waste of money. I won't be ordering from here anymore.
The udon at Marugame Udon is fairly standard, with good portions and quality. The food smells great, the croquettes and shrimp tempura taste delicious, and the udon itself is satisfying. However, there is nothing particularly unique or exceptional about this restaurant compared to others serving similar dishes. I would rate it as good, but not exceptional enough to merit a 5-star rating.

The food was tasty, but my wife and I were both disappointed that the broth wasn't hot. When we sat down to eat, the broth was only lukewarm at best. The noodles were also very long and difficult to manage, but that could be a personal preference. Overall, the food was good for the price. We plan on giving it another try on a different day in hopes that the broth is served hot.
I really enjoyed my udon noodles! I ordered the low-sodium noodles with egg and zucchini, while my daughter got the BK noodles with zucchini. Both dishes were delicious and we were pleasantly surprised that the total bill for both dishes was less than $20. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant!
Felt like Fast food Japanese food.... I guess I was expecting little bit more from my experience at other locations I have tried. The broth is overly salty. The temperature shrimp and the Ika was soggy. The croquet was very oily. The udon noodles were over cooked
The food at this restaurant is consistently delicious, even when getting takeout. The staff is friendly both in person and over the phone. The restaurant is clean and it is easy to help oneself to utensils and other items.

Every time I come here I want to try something new but the Nikutama Udon bowl is just too good. Hands down some of the BEST broth I have ever had. This place is always packed and for good reason!
It's always so pleasant coming here with good food. Sometimes the soup base might be salty but today Tonkotu noodle is just right for me.
