My wife and I had dinner at Masala Craft one evening. It is known for serving Indian street food such as pav bhaji, vada pav and samosa chaat, along with traditional curries. The restaurant's ambiance is pleasant, decorated with old Bollywood posters and Indian company logos. We ordered samosa chaat, bagan bharta, prawn madras, pilau rice, and chilli naan. The food was good overall, but the prawn madras was extremely spicy. The service was slow, likely due to the lack of staff. Visited early evening with my 13 year old grandson intending to widen his experience of indian food without scaring him off. Always difficult to gauge the heat level of common dishes in new restaurants so, with the help of the waiter, we decided to play safe with a chicken balti. He albsotutely loved it except it could have been hotter (spicier) for him. We'll do better next time. Otherwise, my Lamb Madras was to die for. Succulent pieces of meat of a quality I'm not used to from the lacal take away. Thank you chef! Although quiet with just a couple of other families with young children, the location was ideal, the atmosphere pleasant, the service immpecable and the value for money good.
It's been a long time, but I think this is the 4th incarnation of Masala Craft I've visited in York (it's now in a great little space halfway along Walmgate). Chef Arvind remains a magician in the kitchen, and the ambience service menu flavours were sublime. Incredible value, too!
Visited in March and really enjoyed our meal. Everything was fresh and had great flavours. Portion sizes were perfect and even had to take some home. Onion bhaji and chicken pakora side plates were both lush… crispy and not greasy like you would find in other places.

This was our first Indian in an actual Indian restaurant! We ordered several vegan dishes Inc a potato curry, onion bargi, a lentil dish. All we're delicious and we had great service with Ana who helped us choose our order.
My partner tried the haggis curry and really enjoyed it. I had the lamb. But was let down. Very watery sauce and a little tasteless. Would give another try if visiting york again.
Whilst the restaurant is small it makes up for that with big flavours. Enjoyed a selection of curries both veg and chicken which were all had distinct flavours.
Masala Craft is a good place for a decent Indian meal in casual setting. Good choice of dishes on the menu. Decent masala chai to conclude your meal with.

During our business trip, we dined with a large group and enjoyed a decent meal. Unfortunately, the service was lacking.
