I'm really disappointed because we've been ordering from Maya for years. However, the last few times we've gotten food here, it hasn't been as good. We always get the papadum, jalapeno cheese naan, chicken vindaloo, and baingan bharta. I think they must have gotten a new chef this year because the vindaloo is made so differently. It's spicier now which is no problem for me but also tastes strongly of tomato sauce. The chicken hasn't been great quality (sometimes rubbery or with too much skin left on the pieces), the potatoes taste burnt, and there are far too many large chunks of tomato (the dish never had that before). The sauce that comes with the papadum has also changed. It's really not...

Went to see a play nearby and wanted to grab something to eat first. Walked down the street and passed this restaurant. Some woman noticed I was looking around and asked what I was looking for. I told her I was looking for a restaurant to dine in before the show. She mentioned how I just passed a delicious Nepalese women owned restaurant. Since I didn't want to walk too far, I told her I would turn around and try them out. I'm so glad I did. The food was delicious. I ordered chicken biryani (basmati rice, richly flavored with saffron nuts and raisins), chicken tikki masala (cubes of tender chicken cooked with onions and bell peppers in tomato and onion sauce) and garlic naan. Everything was...
I placed an online order at 5:40 for a pickup at 7:45. However, at 7:40, I received a call asking if I was still coming to pick up my order, which I had placed at 5:40. You can probably guess what happened next… The staff member had to microwave the lamb curry because it wasn't even warm to the touch when I arrived. By the time I got back to my hotel, which is literally next door, the food was only lukewarm at best. The lamb curry itself was quite underwhelming; it might have tasted better if it had been served hot. Overall, I don't think the $40 I spent—on the lamb curry, a Taj Mahal beer, and a 20% tip I added when ordering—was worth it. This experience has taught me to avoid tipping befor...
- Pea and potato samosa: It had a great spice level, likely medium spicy, but the outer dough was thick and not particularly crispy. - Palak paneer: This dish was too heavy and creamy, and it lacked sufficient spice. - Dal makhani: It was bland, missing both salt and the smoky flavor that gives it depth. - Chickpea dish, similar to chana masala: Also bland. - Lamb rogan josh: This was a standout; it had excellent flavor and tender meat. - Chicken tikka masala: Unfortunately, it was overly sweet, lacking depth, spice, and proper seasoning. - Basmati rice: This was fine. - Naan: Pretty good, lightly crispy. If I ever return, I think I'll try the Nepali specialties instead. Réservez une table maintenant
This restaurant does NOT deserve this rating. The food is average and no more. Any other sin is forgivable but put it on the plate The service is TERRIBLE. I waited 40 minutes to get a check with only 3 tables being served. The check has 3 tip categories 20%, 25% or 30%. They really deserve 0%. Ambiance is another 0! There are flashing white lights (thousands) reflected off mirrors all around your table! Want a seizure or migraine it 's the place for you. If you want Indian food don 't do this to yourself. Go to passage to India 5 minutes away. I give a 5 star rating in each category.
Tried this place out in the DC area, pretty neat setup inside the restaurant, We tried a chicken biriyani, and the tandoori chicken, plus a Gobi masala with Roti. Everything was deliciously flavorful. I requested the biriyani and tandoori chicken to be spicy and it came out amazing. They do have a masala chai, but cannot be served sugar free, my colleague tried it and said it was too sweet. A decent amount of tables and simple seating nothing too fancy. The service could be quicker and has room to improvement.
This is our favorite Indian restaurant in the DMV area. I've been dining here for nearly 15 years and have never had a bad experience. The quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff keep me coming back, now with my family, for this comforting Indian cuisine. I would only suggest they bring back the tea lights for simmering the meat at the table, as it added to the atmosphere. However, even without that, this is a must-visit spot and truly a gem in the area.
I heard good things, went for the first time and i had bad experience. I ordered tea first, it was completely stale which they changed after i ordered dinner. Fish tikka had samon, samon tasted like it was cooked 3-4 days ago. Matar panir wasn’t good. Food plus the service was worse. definitely not going again. Réservez une table maintenant
I was truly impressed by how delicious the food was. The Jhol Momo was among the best I've ever had, and the butter chicken was fantastic too. I highly recommend this place! As for the vegetarian options, they offer an excellent selection.
